Sunil Jakhar Clarifies Congress Will Not Name CM Face For Punjab
On Wednesday, state Congress campaign committee chief Sunil Jakhar made it clear that the Congress party will not be announcing chief ministerial face ahead of the Punjab polls 2022. Mr Jakhar added that Congress will fight for Punjab polls under collective leadership.
Confirming about the same, Mr Jakhar said: “We had never announced chief ministerial face before Assembly Elections except in 2017, which was an exception. Now also we will not announce chief ministerial face and will contest Assembly Elections 2022 under the joint leadership of Congress,” Mr Sunil Jakhar also added that naming Caption Amarinder Singh as the chief ministerial candidate in the 2017 State Assembly polls was an exception.
The screening committee of All India Congress Committee (AICC) had a meeting today with Mr Jakhar, Mr Maken and Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. According to some sources, Navjot Singh Sidhu has been pushing for the announcement of a CM’s face and keen on positioning himself for the position. However, most of the party members are in favour of fighting polls under collective leadership.
