Crossover From Samajwadi To BJP: Who Is Aparna Yadav?

It’s quite common that political leaders continue to make a crossover from one political party to another ahead of elections. However, the news of Aparna Yadav joining the Bhartiya Janata Party ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections came as a big shock to everyone. The reason behind this reaction is that Aparna Yadav is a family member of Samajwadi Party head Mulayam Singh Yadav. She is in fact Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law and wife of Prateek Yadav, brother of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.

Why Did Aparna Yadav Leave Samajwadi Party And Joined BJP?

When inducted into BJP, Aparna said that she was very much influenced with prime minister Narendra Modi and his policies. Aparna added that she has joined BJP to serve the nation. During an exclusive interview to a news channel, Aparna Yadav said: “I have always been profoundly, in fact, indelibly impressed by whatever our honourable Prime Minister [Narendra Modi] and honourable Chief Minister of UP Yogi Adityanath have said, whatever their policies are, I think I adhere to it, I abide by them…I joined this party so that I can serve my nation better,”

Though there is no clear cut answer to why Aparna decided to leave his brother-in-law Akhilesh Yadav’s party and join the main opposition party of SP, sources claim that Aparna wanted to contest for Uttar Pradesh polls from the Lucknow cantonment seat. However, Akhilesh Yadav was not keen on fielding a family member in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections which led Aparna Yadav look for another political party.

It is still unclear that from where will Aparna fight the UP elections. However, the Bhartiya Janata Party has quite a stronghold of the Lucknow Cantt seat. In 2017, Rita Bahuguna Joshi of BJP had won the Uttar Pradesh election from the Lucknow Cantonment seat.

Who Is Aparna Yadav?

Aparna Yadav was a student of Loreto Convent School, Lucknow and she has done her masters in International Relations and Politics from the renowned Manchester University, United Kingdom. Her father Arvind Singh Bisht is a journalist and her mother is an officer in the Lucknow Municipal Corporation. She got married to Prateek Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s second child from his second marriage. Apart from having a masters degree in politics, Aparna Yadav is a trained classical singer who has studied classical music for nine years from the Bhatkande Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Lucknow. She also has interest in social work and runs an organisation that works for women’s rights.

In 2017, Aparna Yadav had contested the Uttar Pradesh elections from the Lucknow seat but lost to BJP’s Rita Bahuguna Joshi with a margin of 33,796 votes.
