2010 to 2020 : Major Controversies that became talk of the town


1. Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case [caption id="attachment_4951" align="alignnone" width="640"]sushant insta Image Credits: Instagram/Sushant Singh Rajput[/caption] While everyone was already dealing with a Pandemic, 2020 hit us hard again when the news of Sushant Singh Rajpur came in. The actor committed suicide in his apartment on 20th June. The death sparked a controversy that did the round for the whole year and is still continuing. From the Nepotism debate, Mental Heath discussion to arresting of Rhea Chakraborty and the actor’s alleged affairs with Ankita Lokhande, Kirti Sanon, and Sara Ali Khan, everything was questioned by the Mumbai Police. The actor’s death turned into an ugly spat between Bollywood celebrities.  2. Karan Johar’s alleged drug party -  2019 saw many controversies, but the top one has to be the party at Karan Johar’s house in Mumbai. The party was a star-studded one with Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Shahid Kapoor, and Varun Dhawan. Zaira Wasim quitting Bollywood - Another major controversy that hit Bollywood in 2019 was when Muslim female actor Zaira Wasim announced that she is leaving Bollywood to follow faith. This news sparked a debate on social media. Soon After, actor Sonu Sood quit the film and accused Kangana of playing the victim card, and another female actor, Swati Semwal, also left the film. Director Ketan Mehta also accused Kangana of hijacking his dream project.  5. Tanushree Dutta vs Nana Patekar (#MeToo)  [caption id="attachment_4934" align="alignnone" width="1024"]Nana-Patekar-Tanushree The statesman Image Credits: The Statesman[/caption] In 2018, #MeToo movement in Bollywood was doing the rounds, female actor, Tanushree Dutta came out in public and accused Veteran actor, Nana Patekar of sexually abusing her on the sets of Horn Ok Please. This particulaer accusation sparked a controversy. Later, The actor was acquitted from the case due to lack of evidence.  6. Padmavat vs. Karni Sena padmavat All of it started when a rumour that the movie has a dream sequence of intimate scenes between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati. Since then, groups like Karni Sena didn’t stay calm and started protesting against the film's release. The makers repeatedly denied any such sequence, but the issue got more dangerous with sets being vandalised and crew, including Bhansali, being physically Assaulted. However, the movie was a huge success after its release.  7. And what followed was a series of scandalous information coupled with Kangana’s boldness. Kangana even went on to say that Hrithik still needs his father's help for his success.  8. AIB Roast AIB The AIB knockout, where Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor roasted many Bollywood celebrities, didn’t go well with many. With abuses and vulgar gestures that left many red-headed. The roast was intended for fun but was perceived as offensive in nature. 9. Anushka Sharma blamed for the loss of the world cup anushka sharma As cringing as it sounds, during the ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal in Melbourne, Anushka Sharma was present to cheer her rumoured beau, Virat Kohli. When we lost the match, the actor was blamed for it and was declared a “bad omen” by many. Where do you blame a female actor for the loss of the Cricket World Cup? In India! 10. When the photographers tried to capture the couple, it didn’t go down well with the actor, and Ranbir literally snatched the cameras from them, which was reported by the media a lot. Well, Ranbir became a part of controversy to avoid another! 10. Jiah Khan suicide case jiah khan filmi beat In 2013, the alleged suicide of female actor Jiah Khan shocked everybody. The actor got famous for her role in the film Nishabdd. The suicide took the shape of controversy when Jiah’s mother allegedly blamed Sooraj Pancholi, son of actor Aditya Pancholi for Jiah’s Suicide. The two were reportedly in a relationship. A suicide note was also found by the police, where Jiah explained her mental and emotional state. SRK slapped Shirish Kunder [caption id="attachment_4943" align="alignnone" width="675"]shah-rukh-khan-shirish-kunder IBTimes India Image Credits: IBtimes India[/caption] In 2012, King Khan rocked the world of controversies. Though the actor is known for his humble and calm behaviour, but during the success party of Sanjay Dutt’s Agneepath, Khan reportedly got angry by Shirish Kunder’s drunk behaviour and slapped him in public. The blame game continued, but later everything was sorted out, and Farah Khan came to the rescue.   12. King Khan Banned from Wankhede Stadium [caption id="attachment_4942" align="alignnone" width="464"]Shahrukh BBC Image Credits: BBC[/caption] It was like that Shirish Kunder’s episode was not enough; King Khan got himself in another controversy wherein he reportedly misbehaved with one of the officials of Wankhede Stadium, which ended up Khan being banned from entering the stadium for 5 years. But, in 2016, it was declared by Mumbai Police that Shahrukh was not drunk during the incident and didn’t use any kind of abusive language before minors.  13. My Name Is Khan Controversy  [caption id="attachment_4932" align="alignnone" width="600"]my name is khan outlook India Image Credits: Outlook India[/caption] A major controversy in 2010 was related to the film, My Name Is Khan. The Karan Johar film, which was a massive success at the box office, ran into controversy when SRK commented on the non-inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Indeed, it didn’t go down well with Shiv Sena, and they demanded a block on the film's release. Not only that, Udhav Thackeray even compared King Khan to Ajmal Kasab.
