Cannes 2022: Deepika Padukone To Represent India At The 75th Cannes Film Festival


In what is a moment of pride for the Hindi Film industry, Bollywood female actor Deepika Padukone will represent India at the 75th Cannes Film Festival as one of the jury members, as per the latest Cannes 2022 news.  On Tuesday night, the Cannes Film Festival 2022 tweeted revealing the President of the Jury and the judge who is a member of the competition to select the winners of this year's Palme d'Or honors and Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone is one of the Cannes jury member. Deepika, who first appeared on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017, shared the news with her fans by sharing her photo with other judge members, including Oscar-winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, Jeff Nichols, Rebecca Hall, Noomi Rapace, Jasmine Trinca, Ladj Ly and Joachim Trier.French actor Vincent Lindon will be the presiding judge. The Cannes 2022 Film Festival begins on May 17 2022, and the judges will announce the winners of this year's event at a gala event in Cannes on May 28. This year's competition highlights David Cronenberg's dystopian sci-fi drama 'Crimes of the Future, starring Lea Seydoux, Kristen Stewart and Viggo Mortensen, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. Anonymous filmmaker 'The Decision to Go' by South Korean's Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) and 'show from First Cow' filmmaker Kelly Reichardt, starring Michelle Williams, are among others.  In a statement to the press, Cannes described Deepika Padukone as ‘Indian Actress, producer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur Deepika Padukone is a huge star in her country. With over 30 feature films to her credit, she made her English language film debut as the female lead in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, co-starring with Vin Diesel. She is also the principal of Ka Productions, the production company behind Chhapaak and '83, in which she also starred, as well as the upcoming film The Intern. Credits include Gehraiyaan and Padmaavat, as well as the award-winning and critically acclaimed film Piku. In 2015, she set up The Live Love Laugh Foundation, whose programs and initiatives aim to destigmatize mental illness and raise awareness about the importance of mental health. In 2018, Time Magazine named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.’ In a statement posted on the official website of the festival, Lindon said: "With my jury, we will strive to take the best possible care of the films of the future, all of which carry the same secret hope of courage, loyalty, and freedom, with a mission to move the greatest number of women and men by speaking to them of their common wounds and joys. Culture helps the human soul to rise and hope for tomorrow,"  Deepika Padukone was earlier the chairperson of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival for two years.  Deepika Padukone made her debut with the film Om Shanti Om in 2007 paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika later featured in several blockbusters and critically-acclaimed movies like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat and Piku.  The female actor, who was most recently seen in Shakun Batra's Gehraiyaan, made her Hollywood debut with the 2017 actioner xXx: The Return of Xander Cage along with Vin Diesel. Currently, Deepika Padukone is busy with her upcoming projects, which includes Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan, Fighter with Hrithik Roshan, an untitled movie with Prabhas and the Hindi remake of the Hollywood movie The Intern.
