Even In 21st Century Women Are Not Free To Make Their Independent Choices

Here’s to the new day with the same old mentality and objections that society has on the choices women make.  A young woman dating an old man is a problem. Probably, she’s a gold digger.  An older woman dating a young man is yet another problem, because she is perhaps fond of boy toy.  A struggling woman who chooses her style of getting the media attention looks desperate to the society,  And, a woman who just demanded alimony from her husband is definitely an opportunist.  The society has a lot to judge, and they take it as their everyday task to accomplish. So, basically people around us will never be happy for the choices woman make, because the so called society has developed its set of rules for women.  The recent entertainment news was all about Sushmita Sen, where she was trolled everywhere for apparently dating Lalit Modi. The Ex-Miss Universe was tagged as the gold digger, to which the actress had to dig down to that level and answer her trollers. Sushmita (46) is a renowned actor, former Miss Universe, a mother, an entrepreneur. But from society’s perspective, she still can’t make choices of her own. As soon as the 58 year old businessman Lalit Modi revealed about his love for Miss Sen, the internet world lost its cool, and started to troll them.  Sushmita Sen’s case is not the only instance where women are being targeted for their independent choices. In fact, there are hundreds of other instances where they female celebrities faced trolling. For instance, Malaika Arora was brutally targeted by the self-proclaimed jury of our society. Recently, she was on the troller’s list for charging a huge alimony from her ex-husband Arbaaz Khan, and now she has become the center of trolling for dating Arjun Kapoor.  This week’s Bollywood news also revolved around Samantha Ruth Prabhu. In this instance, she was speculated for demanding a huge alimony from Naga Chaitanya. And, it seems like forever when people target Urfi Javed and other actors for their choice of clothing regularly.  On one hand, the trollers never seem to be in the mood to calm down. And, on the other hand, the B-Town celebrities have learned to grow in between this negativity. To people who were calling Sushmita Sen a gold digger, they got a befitting reply from the actress. Similarly, people, who were targeting Dia Mirza for getting pregnant before marriage, reflect the hypocrisy which the society holds.  In this society, celebrities have to handle such negativity in every steps. Therefore, they deal with this negativity in their special way. Most importantly, women have learned to survive in the society that’s filled with judgement. And, a lot of women from the industry have also expressed their concern towards the regressive thinking of the society.  We have seen celebrities like Swara Bhaskar who got abused and put down on social media just because she expressed her views, and these are just a few instances. We don’t know when this society will change. But, it is well-known that women will have to learn to grow at their pace with a focused and aligned mindset.  https://twitter.com/etimes/status/1552261254911328256 https://twitter.com/etimes/status/1552261273798197249
