Priyadarshan’s Hera Pheri Completes 21 Years of Its Release

On 31st March 2000, Bollywood dropped a gem in the form of the Priyadarshan-directed film Hera Pheri. The film is still remembered for the famous trio of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal), Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suniel Shetty), and their memorable dialogues.

Actor Suneil Shetty took to Twitter and wrote No wonder we underestimate how quickly time flies. It seems I blinked, and 21 years went by. What a film we made @priyadarshandir @akshaykumar @SirPareshRawal @GulshanGroverGG #Tabu. Missing #OmPuri ji very dearly today”

Actor Akshay Kumar, agreeing with Shetty, posted, “Agreed! Even we didn’t know back then what a film we were making, each scene better than the other.

Akshay also shared his favourite scene from the movie when the trio was fighting, and suddenly Anuradha (Tabu’s character) comes “Specially love this one: dhoti, Genius of Priyan sir and epic dialogues by late Neeraj Vora.”

Actor Gulshan Grover, who essayed the iconic role of Kabira in the film, shared on Twitter, “21 years of #Herapheri, what a film by director Priyadarshan @priyadharshandir Producer #firozNadidadwala and brilliant actors @akshaykumar @SunielVShetty @SirPareshRawal #Tabu #Asrani ji, late #OmPuri ji and #KabiraSpeaking”

The cult classic film is directed by Priyadarshan and the story revolves around a hilarious trio of a landlord, Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal), an unemployed youth, Shyam (Suniel Shetty) and a conman, Raju (Akshay Kumar), all of them with financial problems and dreaming of earning money in the shortest time possible.

After the film’s release, audiences went crazy over the witty and hilarious dialogues of Baburao like “utha re le baba, utha le….mere ko nahi dono ko utha le” or “Agar subah subah sandaas jaana hai toh singer banna padega”. Till date, Baburao is considered one of the most iconic roles played by actor Paresh Rawal.

In 2006, the makers of Hera Pheri released a sequel of the film titled “Phir Hera Pheri,” which was loved by the fans so much so that they still demand a third installment of the hit franchise.

Well, we don’t know about the third part of Hera Pheri, but you can always rewatch the classic comedy and what’s better than today? Hera Pheri is streaming on Amazon Prime Video and is also available on YouTube for free!
