Diabetes: Symptoms, Causes, Ayurveda Treatment and Prevention


Diabetes is a widespread health condition that impacts the blood sugar levels and insulin in a person’s body. In this condition, either the pancreas is rendered inefficient to produce adequate insulin, or the body becomes unresponsive to insulin and thus cannot use it efficiently.  Diabetes is not a curable disease. Men who have this condition commonly experience a reduced sex drive, a lack of muscle strength, and erectile dysfunction. Women with diabetes will experience yeast infections, itchy and dry skin, and urinary tract infections. 

Causes of Diabetes

In type 1 diabetes, the immune system strikes the insulin-generating beta cells in the pancreas. It makes the body unable to generate insulin.  Type 2 diabetes is mainly caused by an inactive lifestyle that causes excess weight gain. The body in this condition cannot properly use the insulin that the pancreas produces. Hence, glucose accumulates in the blood. However, researchers are yet to determine the exact cause of it.

Treatment of Diabetes

For type 1 diabetes, insulin is the primary treatment line. Four kinds of insulin are injected by the patient into their body. They are:
  • Rapid-acting insulin that begins working in 15 minutes.
  • Short-acting insulin that begins working in 30 minutes.
  • Intermediate-acting insulin that begins working within an hour or two.
  • Long-acting insulin that starts working in a few hours.
For managing type 2 diabetes, apart from drugs, a healthy diet and regular exercise play a crucial role. With only a few healthy lifestyle changes, the patient can significantly lower their blood sugar levels.  When you couple your prescription drugs with ayurvedic medicine for diabetes, you can find a rapid improvement in your blood sugar levels.
