Bharat Bandh Today: BAMCEF Calls For a Caste Census Across The Country

The Backward and Minority Communities Employee Federation (BAMCEF) has called for a Bharat Bandh today. Speaking about the same, the BAMCEF President said: “Our Bharat Bandh movement has been supported by Rashtriya Parivartan Morcha, Bharat Mukti Morcha, Bahujan Mukti Morcha and many other organisations.” The members of BAMCEF have called the nationwide strike to put their demand of a caste census across India. Other demands include non-use of EVMs in elections, reservation for SC, ST, and OBCs in private organisations, non-implementation of CAA and NRC, resuming the old pension scheme and guaranteeing MSP to farmers. The Bharat Bandh today is unlikely to affect daily services as neither transport unions, the education sector, nor the banking sector has called for a strike. States like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh might see some disruptions.

India Puts Restrictions On Sugar Exports To Prevent Surge In Local Prices

Recently, the central government put restrictions on sugar exports from June 1 to prevent the surge in local prices as the domestic demand for sugar continues to grow. As per reports, the government has asked traders to secure permission for the overseas sale of sugar from June 1 to October 31. The notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) read: “Export of sugar (raw, refined and white sugar) is placed under restricted category from June 1, 2022, onwards. The government has decided to allow export of sugar up to 100 LMT (Lakh Metric Tonnes) with a view to maintain the domestic availability and price stability during the sugar season 2021-22 (October-September).” This step by India has been taken first time in six years with sugar exports. India is the second biggest exporter of sugar after Brazil and the world’s biggest producer of sugar. Many other countries have also placed similar restrictions on other food items in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The US School Shooting: Teenage Gunman Kills At Least 19 Children In Robb Elementary School, Texas

On Tuesday, a teenage gunman stormed into the Robb Elementary School in Texas and killed at least 19 children and two adults. The school shooting incident in the US is the deadliest one in nearly a decade. The United States President Joe Biden, visible shaken, spoke from the White House later and asked the Americans to stand up against the US gun lobby, which he blamed for blocking the enactment of rugged firearms safety laws. Governor Greg Abbott identified the suspect as Salvador Ramos, who was apparently killed by the police officers. As per reports, the 18-year-old gunman had shot his own grandmother, crashed his getaway car and then launched an attack at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Reacting to the shooting incident, former President of the United States, Barack Obama, wrote on Twitter: “We’re also angry for them. Nearly ten years after Sandy Hook—and ten days after Buffalo—our country is paralysed, not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party that have shown no willingness to act in any way that might help prevent these tragedies,”
