Covid-19 Cases Down; Hospital Care Up In Mumbai, Delhi

As per an analysation of hospital data of a week done by NDTV, while Mumbai and Delhi saw a decrease in active covid-19 cases, more people need hospital care in both cities. In Mumbai, the hospitalisation rate was 7.24% on 11th January and increased to 11.08% on 17th January. A mere drop in active covid-19 cases cannot indicate if the virus spread is slowing down or no longer worrying as low testing can be a factor contributing to the dip. Two cities neighbouring Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon, also saw a rising curve in hospital care. 

Covid-Bulletin: India Records 2,82,970 New Covid-19 Cases; Total Omicron Cases At 8,961

According to the latest data released by the union health ministry, India has registered 2,82,970 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 18,31,000. Meanwhile, the nation has recorded 1,88,157 recoveries in the previous 24 hours, and the total recoveries have reached 3,55,83,039. The daily and weekly positivity rates currently stand at 15.13% and 15.53%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 70.74 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, India has administered 158.88 crore covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. India has recorded 8,961 Omicron cases so far, an increase of 0.79% since yesterday.

INS Ranvir: Three Indian Navy Sailors Killed; 11 Sustains Burn Injuries

The explosion on-board the Rajput-class destroyer, INS Ranvir, killed three Indian Navy sailors, with 11 others sustaining burn injuries. The blast took place at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Tuesday. An inquiry over the explosion is ongoing. However, some sources indicated that the explosion could be due to a leakage of gas in the air-conditioning compartment of INS Ranvir. A source close to the development said: “Those who died were sitting in their cabin adjoining the AC compartment when the blast occurred. The cabin collapsed on them. The blast was not ammunition-related,”

The absconded Kingfisher tycoon Vijay Mallya might have to evict his luxury home in London after the UK high court ruled out an order against him in connection to a dispute with the Swiss Bank UBS. Vijay Mallya had held a mortgage obtained from UBS on the multi-million-pound property. However, he failed to meet a previous repayment deadline in April 2020. Vijay Mallya has been living in London since he was accused of INR 9,000 crore fraud in India relating to Kingfisher airlines. He has consistently denied all charges by the Indian government

The makers of The Great Indian Murder released the trailer today. The thriller web series starring Richa Chadha and Pratik Gandhi revolves around the murder of a minister’s son. Bachchan Pandey Release Date Out: Akshay Kumar Starrer To Release On Holi 2022! 

One of the most anticipated movies of 2022, Bachchan Pandey’s release date is finally out.
