Covid-19 Vaccination Guidelines For Children


Not just for adults, vaccinating children is also very important. Our honourable prime minister Narendra Modi announced on 25th December 2021 that the vaccination of children against Covid-19 might start as early as next year in January. After India was on its way to becoming the largest producer of Covid-19 vaccines, it also took great initiative to develop a vaccine for children The government is planning to give covid vaccines for kids to fight against the novel coronavirus.The vaccine passes through many clinical trials and is entirely safe and effective for children. Vaccines for children aged between 5 - 11 years were developed and tested similarly like adult vaccines. Which covid-19 vaccine will be given to children? 

As we all know, Covid-19 vaccines are one of the best way to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. That is why the vaccine for children in India is very important. There are mostly two vaccines that will be administered for children - 
  • Zydus Cadila by Cadila Healthcare Ltd. 
  • Covaxin by Bharat Biotech
The first vaccine Zydus Cadila has been recommended for children above two years old. On the other hand, the DCGI, which is also known as the Drug Controller General of India, gave emergency use approval to Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for the age group of children (12-18). 

Is child vaccination in India mandatory? 

To fight against novel coronavirus, vaccination is essential. Recently the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, announced on 25th December that children between 15-18 years old will be vaccinated from 3rd January 2022. Vaccines against the coronavirus have not been made mandatory for any age group as of now, but the government is constantly issuing advisories to educate people that why they must get vaccinated. 

Vaccination process 

As per children’s vaccination process, the process will be almost similar to adult vaccination. However the government has stated that only Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin will be administered for vaccinating children in the age group of 15-18. As per the booster shots, front line workers, fully vaccinated healthcare workers and people aged above 60 and with co-morbidities can register for booster shots or precautionary doses from 10th January 2022. In booster shots guidelines, the government also mentioned that the booster shots could only be taken nine months after the second dose has been administered. All those eligible for covid-19 vaccination can register on the CoWIN app. The registration for booster shots can be done online or on-site. According to doctors, children's vaccination would be beneficial. After the vaccination, the safety of the children will increase and is very necessary for their survival from Covid-19. For the protection of their children, their parents need to vaccinate them soon.
