Shiv Sena Leader Arrested By ED In Money Laundering Case

ED Arrested Shiv Sena Leader Sanjay Raut In Money Laundering Case

On Sunday, after searching the residence of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut for more than nine hours, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in an alleged money laundering case.  The leader's arrest is considered a major setback to the Shiv Sena as the party has been experiencing challenges for the last few months. The case in which the MP is arrested relates to irregularities in fund distribution for the redevelopment of ‘Patra Chawl’ in the city.  Before being taken into custody, the agency summoned Raut twice. However, he didn’t appear for questioning. He cited that he will appear only after August 7, 2022, as the monsoon session is ongoing in the Parliament.   As the investigation was ongoing at his residence, Mr Raut, from his Twitter handle, denied any wrongdoings and responded that the agency targeted him because of political vendetta. He tweeted, “False action, false evidence. I will die but will not surrender. I will never leave Shiv Sena. I swear by Balasaheb Thackeray that I am not involved in any scam. He taught us to fight, and I will continue to fight for Shiv Sena”. https://twitter.com/rautsanjay61/status/1553582646424268800 https://twitter.com/rautsanjay61/status/1553581349596012545
