Assam-Mizoram Border Dispute Escalates

The Assam-Mizoram border dispute has turned violent in the past few days. In the clash between the two North Eastern sister's states, major conflicts have resulted in deaths on both sides. Both Assam and Mizoram sides have accused each other of provoking violence. The tensions started in Cachar last Monday, and the clashes kept the border pot boiling for the fourth successive day. Earlier this week, six officers were killed from the Assam side. The state of Assam shares a 164 km long border with Mizoram, and while there have been many talks to end the border dispute, both parties have failed to reach any conclusion. Home Minister Amit Shah has asked Himanta Biswa Sharma (Assam CM) and Zoramthanga (Mizoram CM) to end the violence and ensure peace along the border disputed area. The first row between the two North-Eastern states broke out in 1994, and since then, both parties blame each other for encroaching on their land. On 25th July, the tensions escalated when eight farm huts belonging to Mizo farmers were burned down. According to reports, there are bunkers that are suspected to be built by Mizo trespassers are stationed across the inter-state boundary, and a massive mobilization of state forces by Assam are escalating the border dispute further.  https://youtu.be/aiAdIk99k4g

Goa CM: "My Statement Was Taken Out Of Context"

Clarifying his side, Sawant said: "My statement about the unfortunate incident was taken out of context. Both as head of a responsible government and as a father of a 14-year-old daughter, I was deeply pained and disturbed. Pain of this incident is inexplicable. Let me assure you that I shall ensure that the culprits get the most stringent punishment under the law. The safety of our citizens is always my government's top priority." The unfortunate incident took place on Benaulim Beach wherein four men raped the two girls after beating up the boys. During a discussion in the Assembly about the same, Mr Sawant made disgusting comments and said: "When 14-year-old children stay on the beach the whole night, the parents need to introspect. Just because children don't listen, we cannot put the responsibility on the government and police. Teens, particularly minors, should not be spending the nights on beaches," The comments received a backlash from opposition leaders, and some even demanded the resignation of Pramod Sawant. https://youtu.be/z9gN-SDERhQ
