According to the data released by the union health ministry on Friday morning, 1,32,364 more people tested covid-19 positive in the last 24 hours. A minimal dip was reported as the daily infection number stood at 1,34,154 on Thursday. The cumulative covid-19 caseload in the country stands at 2,85,74,350 - the highest in the world. India recorded the least number of death since 26th April, with 2,713 more people succumbing to death. No Relaxation From Lockdown-Like Curbs Yet Says Maharashtra Government

After an announcement made on Thursday that Maharashtra Government will begin a new 5-level unlock plan from 4th June, a few hours later, the Maharashtra Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) clarified that the proposal is still under consideration. The DGIPR said: "The proposal for relaxation of phase-wise restrictions in the state is under consideration, and the implementation will be taken after a full review by the concerned administrative constituents of the district," Maharashtra is under lockdown till 15th June.

Kerela Takes The Top Position In The Sustainable Development Goals India Index Report 2020-21

Niti Aayog released the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index, and Kerala managed to bag the top position yet again. The government of India releases the SDG index every year to evaluate the progress of states and union territories on economic, social and environmental criteria. Kerela scored 75 out of 100. However, states including Jharkhand (56), Bihar (52) and Assam (57) featured at the bottom of the index as the worst-performing states. The SDG index 2021 covers 17 goals, 115 indicators, 70 targets. USA: Increase In Manufacturing Capacity Of Covid-19 Vaccines In India To Be A Game Changer

The US president, Joe Biden administration on Thursday, said: "It's important to us because India has suffered immensely from the outbreak. Virtually, no element of Indian society has been left untouched by this horrible scourge. That is why we have spoken of the focus on increased manufacturing in India. With the increased manufacturing capacity in India, the volume of capacity has the potential to be a game-changer well beyond India's borders," At the first virtual QUAD summit comprising leaders from India, Japan, Australia and the United States, a decision was taken to work together to increase the production capacity of covid-19 vaccines in India. On Thursday, the United States announced that it would send 25 million of its vaccine to other countries, including India. So far, the USA has provided $500 million in covid-19 assistance to India.

The monetary policy committee of the Reserve Bank of India kept the repo rate unchanged at 4% for the financial year 2021-22.
