Monsoon Session In Parliament Turns Into A Stormy One
As the monsoon session of the Parliament began yesterday, Opposition leaders slogans prevented the introduction of new ministers in the Lok Sabha. While hitting back at BJP’s political rivals, PM Modi said: “I thought there would be enthusiasm in Parliament as so many women, Dalits, and tribals have become ministers. Perhaps some people are not happy. That is why they didn’t even allow their introduction,” Later Defence Minister Rajnath Singh objected and said that it was the first time that he had seen a Prime Minister not being allowed to introduce his new ministers. As the Congress MPs continued slogan-shouting despite repeated warnings from the speaker, the house was adjourned 2 times before it was adjourned for the day. Before the start of the session, PM Modi had urged all MPs and parties to ask tough questions but also allow the government to reply in a disciplined environment. On Tuesday evening, PM Modi has urged all the floor leaders to take time out as he is willing to provide detailed information regarding the pandemic.
The USA Eases Travel Advisory For India; Places India From Level 4 To Level 3
The United States has improved the travel advisory for Indians and lowered it from Level 4 to Level 3. Earlier, the USA has restricted no travel to India, but now US citizens can reconsider travelling to India as it eased travel recommendations. Apart from India, the USA has improved travel advisory for Pakistan as well. The news came after the state department acknowledged the improvement of the covid-19 pandemic situation in both regions. Issuing a Level 3 health notice for India due to covid-19, the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said: “Your risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine. Before planning any international travel, please review the CDC’s specific recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers,” The last month’s advisory was issued when India was struggling to cope with the deadly second wave of the pandemic and facing a shortage of oxygen and beds in hospitals. The USA has 4 travel advisory levels: Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions, Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution, Level 3: Reconsider Travel, Level 4: Do not Travel.
ADB Lowers India’s Economic Growth Forecast For FY2022
The Asian Development Bank has lowered India’s economic growth forecast from 11% to 10% for the current financial year (FY2022), on account of the adverse impact of the covid-19 pandemic on the overall economy of the country. The multilateral funding agency in its Asian Development Outlook (ADO) supplement said: “Early indicators show economic activity resuming quickly after containment measures eased. The growth projection for FY2021 (ending March 2022), downgraded from 11 per cent in ADO 2021 to 10 per cent, reflects large base effects,” The report also said that that the adverse impact of new waves is expected to be limited as businesses and consumers are better prepared than they were a year ago and would be able to adapt to the pandemic and containment measures.
#ADBNEWS: ADB is projecting 7.2% economic growth for developing Asia this year, compared with its 7.3% forecast in April, as renewed COVID-19 outbreaks slow the recovery in some economies in the region. The growth outlook for 2022 is upgraded to 5.4% from 5.3%. #ADO2021
