India Surpasses the USA In Total Number Of Vaccine Doses Administered
According to the Union Health Ministry, India has administered 32,36,63,297 covid-19 vaccine doses till date and have surpassed the United States that has administered 32,33,27,328 vaccine doses. However, 46.5% of adults in the USA have taken the vaccine, but only 5.6% of adults in India’s population have been fully vaccinated. India began its inoculation drive on 16th January 2021 and is currently in the third phase of vaccinating the age group of 18-45. Three covid-19 vaccines, including Serum Institute’s Covishield, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Russia’s Sputnik V, is being administered in India. The country’s inoculation drive is also facing another major challenge as 54% of men have received the covid-19 vaccine compared to 46% of women – a gap of 8%, which clearly indicates a gender imbalance.
