Madhya Pradesh’s Indore Becomes the First Water Plus City Of India

Under the Swachh Survekshan 2021, Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city has been declared as India’s first water plus city. Indore already holds the place of being the country’s cleanest city. Speaking about the same, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said: “Heartiest congratulations to the citizens of Indore as it becomes the first SBM (Swachh Bharat Mission) Water certified city under #SwachhSurvekshan2021. Indore has been an example for the whole nation for its determination and dedication towards cleanliness. May it continue to bring glory to the state,” The Swachh Survekshan 2021 annually surveys the degree of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across the country and was launched as a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The certificate of water plus city is given to a town for maintaining cleanliness in rivers and drains that come under its administration. The certificate is granted only after a city is able to meet specific criterias like the dirty water from the city should not go into any drain or river, all public toilets must be connected to sewer lines and should be cleaned. Apart from this, 30% of the city’s sewer water should be recycled and rescued. As per the municipal official, 30% of recycled water in Indore was re-used by citizens for gardening purposes and by people at construction sites. 

Covid Bulletin: India Records 41,195 Covid-19 Cases; Daily Positivity Rate At 1.94% 

According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, India has recorded 41,195 covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Currently, India’s active caseload stands at 3,87,987, constituting 1.21% of the total covid-19 cases reported in the country, the lowest since March 2020. Meanwhile, India has reported 39,069 recoveries between Wednesday and Thursday, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,12,60,050. The weekly positivity rate of India currently stands at 2.23%, and the daily positivity rate at 1.94%. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, India has conducted 48.73 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, the country has administered 52.36 crore anti covid jabs under the nationwide vaccination drive. 

ISRO’s Mission To Put EOS-03 In Orbit Fails

The Indian Space Research Organization’s mission to put India’s Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-03) in a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit has failed, as informed by the organization on Thursday morning. The launch vehicle, GSLV-F10, lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, as per schedule, but cryogenic upper stage ignition did not happen due to a technical anomaly. The ISRO said: “GSLV-F10 launch took place today at 0543 Hrs IST as scheduled. Performance of the first and second stages was normal. However, Cryogenic Upper Stage ignition did not happen due to technical anomaly. The mission couldn’t be accomplished as intended,” The EOS-03 is a state-of-the-art agile Earth Observation Satellite that will reach the final geostationary orbit using its onboard propulsion system and will be placed in a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit by GSLV-F10. This is the 14th flight of GSLV. 

Rajya Sabha Passes 2nd Highest Number Of Bills Since 2014 In The Monsoon Session

Despite continuous disruption and a rather stormy monsoon session, Rajya Sabha has managed to pass 2nd highest number of bills since 2014 as per the sources. In 17 days sitting, the upper House of the Parliament passed 1.1 bills per day even after Rajya Sabha lost over 74 hours and 26 minutes due to protests by the opposition parties on various issues, including the Pegasus row and farmers’ protest. During the monsoon session of Parliament, Rajya Sabha passed a total of 19 bills, including Tribunals Reform Bills, Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (Amendment) Bill, Constitutional Amendment 127th Amendment Bill, Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, Inland Vessels Bill, among others. The sources said that some members’ behaviour was totally unacceptable and the disruption of House was pre-planned, and washing out the session was the ultimate goal. The sources said that the House is a forum for debate, but such instances lower the dignity of Parliament, and a special committed will be constituted to look into the matter. The monsoon session of the Parliament commenced on 19th July and was adjourned sine die on Wednesday, two days before the scheduled conclusion of the session.

Himachal Pradesh: Landslide In Kinnaur; Death Toll Rises To 13

The Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing heavy landslides for the past few weeks. In the recent landslide reported in the Reckong Peo-Shimla highway around 12 noon on Wednesday, a 30-seater Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) which was moving from Murang to Haridwar, a truck and four cars came under the rubble. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officials said that the number of corpses recovered from the landslide-hit site has climbed to 13 and said that the rescue operation was halted due to another landslide in the area. However, now the rescue operation has been resumed. The ITBP spokesperson Vivek Pandey that the HRTC bus carrying over 30 passengers must have fallen into the Sutlej River after rescue officials could not locate it under the debris.

R Balki’s Next Film To Feature Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt And Dulquer Salmaan 

Director R Balki has announced his new venture, which is going to be a thriller and features Sunny Deol, Pooja Bhatt and Dulquer Salmaan in lead roles. Trying his hands in the genre thriller for the first time, R Balki said: “After months of waiting, it is exciting to start shooting anything. And to make a film in a genre that I haven’t attempted before is even more exciting,” “I have had the idea for a long time but never quite got around to writing it, and while it’s fundamentally a thriller, it banks so much on these four stunning performers. I just can’t wait to get into the edit room,” added writer-director R Balki. The upcoming film is expected to release by early 2022.
