Headlines: PM Modi To Visit Prayagraj Today With A Vision Of Empowering Women

PM Modi To Visit Prayagraj Today With A Vision Of Empowering Women

Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Prayagraj today to participate in one of a kind programme. The government said that PM Modi would be visiting with the vision of empowering women and transferring around INR 1,000 crore in the bank accounts of Self Help Groups (SHGs). BJP's cash scheme is expected to benefit around 16 lakh women members of these groups and will be attended by over two lakh women. PM Modi is also likely to transfer more than Rs 20 crore to over 1 lakh beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme. As state elections in UP are due in two months, political parties including BJP, Congress and Samajwadi Party are focusing on women-centric initiatives. While Congress is standing up against the multiple crimes against women, the Samajwadi Party is also trying to highlight the past initiatives taken by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.  https://twitter.com/narendramodi/status/1472941603991928834 https://twitter.com/narendramodi/status/1472941606277845002

WHO Director: "Omicron is spreading significantly faster than the Delta variant"

On Monday, WHO director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: "There is now consistent evidence that Omicron is spreading significantly faster than the Delta variant and it is more likely people vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19 could be infected or re-infected," WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan also mentioned that it would not be wise to assume from early evidence that Omicron was a milder variant than the previous ones. She also warned that with the numbers going up, health systems would be under strain. WHO officials also pointed out that other forms of immunity vaccinations might prevent infection.  https://twitter.com/WHO/status/1472985530535194629

Can't Bluntly Condemn The Incident Says SGPC President On Sacrilege Killings In Amritsar And Kapurthala

In a recent interview with NDTV, the head of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Harjinder Singh Dhami, said: "It is not a simple incident. It is related to the Guru Granth Sahib and not just any social offence. We cannot bluntly condemn the incident (the death of the two accused) because it involves the sentiments and faith of the Sikh people..." Mr Dhami gave the statement in reference to the recent mob killings of two men in Amritsar and Kapurthala for allegedly desecrating Sikh religious sentiments. Along with refusing to denounce the 'sacrilege' killings, Mr Dhami also appeared to justify the mob killings as a self-defence attack. Mr Dhami said: "The rule of defence states that if someone tries to attack... you can counter-attack as well," However, according to the police, the incident appears to be a case of theft, not sacrilege.  https://youtu.be/cco1P2D4C8Y
