Punjab Govt Behind PM Modi’s Security Breach Says Haryana CM
On Wednesday, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar accused the Punjab government of asking farmer leaders to block the route of PM Modi’s convoy during his visit to Punjab’s Ferozepur and putting the life of a prime minister in danger. Mr Khattar said: “Far from making any arrangements, the Punjab government gave clear instructions to farmer leaders on how to block the path of the Prime Minister. By doing so, they have put his life in danger,” He made the allegations after a sting operation of a TV news channel showing SHO of the relevant police station admitting that he was asked to block roads and the crowd. Referring to the sting operation, home minister of state Anil Vij said: “It has come to the fore through sting operation that an SHO is telling how he was directed to block the crowd and roads. He carried out these instructions”. “There is no doubt in the minds of the people that it was a conspiracy of the Punjab government under which the Prime Minister was stopped”,. added Vij. The Supreme Court has constituted a committee to probe into PM Modi’s security breach that took place on 5th January during his visit to Ferozepur in Punjab.
Covid-Bulletin: India Records 2,47,417 New Covid-19 Cases; Total Omicron Cases 5,000+
According to the latest data released by the union health ministry, India has recorded 2,47,417 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 11,17,531. Meanwhile, the country has registered 84,825 recoveries in the previous 24 hours, and the total recoveries stand at 3,47,15,361. The daily and weekly positivity rates stand at 13.11% and 10.80%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, India has conducted 69.73 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, the country has administered 154.61 crore covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. The union health ministry also released the statewise status of Omicron cases, and India has so far recorded 5,488 Omicron cases. Maharashtra (1,367) has registered the most number of Omicron cases, followed by Rajasthan (792), Delhi (549), Kerala (486) and Karnataka (479).

Dr S. Somnath Appointed As New ISRO Chairman
Rocket scientist Dr S. Somnath has been appointed as the new chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the space secretary. Talking about his priorities in the ever-changing space sector, Dr Somnath said: “We have to hold their (startups) hand and support them to come up. The idea is that the space ecosystem should become more vibrant, economically viable and self-sustaining. IN-SPACe is defining a new model, which is also designed to expand our space economy. The ?16,000-crore space economy that we have in India today should grow to a ?60,000-crore space economy,” Dr Somnath has played a major role in developing the PSLV and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mk-III (GSLV Mk-III). Dr S. Somnath has also served as the director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) and the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST).
UP Elections: BJP’s CEC Meeting Underway; Might Announce Final Candidates
The Bhartiya Janata Party’s central election committee is currently underway, and prime minister Narendra Modi will also be attending the meeting virtually. The CEC meeting is taking place to finalise the candidates for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The meeting is taking place at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, and it is likely that candidates of around 175 assembly seats will be finalised today itself. Along with PM Modi, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP president Swatantra Dev Singh and deputy CMs Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya are also attending the meeting. There have been rumours that Yogi Adityanath might contest UP assembly polls from a new constituency, Ayodhya.
