SKM Mails PM Modi For 6 Other Pending Demands

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the union government is taking back the three controversial farm laws, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha has now mailed PM Modi about 6 demands and mentioned that it expects the government to fulfil the promise at the earliest and in full. Along with demanding a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP), SKM has demanded the removal of junior home minister Ajay Mishra while referring to the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence. By writing an open letter, SKM has hinted that the farmers’ agitation might not end soon, especially till the farm laws are formally repealed in the parliament. Enlisting the demands, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha has demanded the withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill, compensation to kin of around 700 farmers who died during the farmers’ protest and a site at the Singhu border to set up a memorial for them. The farmers union have also demanded the scrapping off fines regarding stubble burning by the commission for Air Quality Management Law and withdrawal of all cases against farmers that were registered against them during the farmers protest. The Mahapanchayat is set to meet on 27th November, two days before the winter session of the parliament.

Covid-Bulletin: India Registers 8,488 New Covid-19 Cases; Recovery Rate At 98.31%

According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, India has recorded 8,488 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 1,18,443, which is the lowest in 534 days. Meanwhile, daily recoveries have outnumbered active covid-19 cases by a considerable margin, with recording 12,510 new recoveries in the previous 24 hours. The total recoveries in the country have reached 3,39,34,547. The daily and weekly positivity rate is currently at 1.08% and 0.93%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, India has conducted 63.25 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, the country has administered 116.87 crore covid-19 tests so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

Proposal Of Repealing Farm Laws To Be Taken Up In Parliament’s Winter Session

On 24th November, the central government is expected to meet and take up the approval of withdrawing the three controversial farm laws announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Guru Purab. The proposal of repealing the farm laws will be formally taken up in the winter session of the parliament, scheduled to begin on 29th November 2021. The official source confirmed: “The repeal of the three farm laws — The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 – will be taken up for approval in the Union Cabinet meeting to be held on Wednesday,” The move by BJP is expected to tone down the aggression that the party has been facing especially from states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab etc. While welcoming PM Modi’s decision, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait issued a statement that the agitation will continue till the farm laws are formally repealed as per parliamentary norms.

Delhi: Construction Activities To Resume, Schools To Remain Shut Amid Air Pollution

On Monday, the Delhi government ended the ban on construction activities imposed by the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and other adjoining areas. However, the state government has instructed that all schools will remain closed in the city till further orders. The ban on entry of trucks, except those carrying essential commodities, has been extended till 26th November amid the air pollution crisis in the national capital. The Delhi government also noted that all government offices, autonomous bodies and corporations will remain closed till 26th November, and the environment department has advised private offices to let their staff work from home. The order also stated: “The violation of the order issued under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, or the rules made thereof, shall be punishable under Section 15 of the said act, which includes imprisonment of up to five years or with fine may extend to Rs 1 Lakh or both,” 

Pathankot: Grenade Blast Near Army Camp In Punjab

As per the latest news from the Pathankot area of Punjab, a grenade blast occurred near the gate of the Pathankot army cantonment area. Though no casualties were reported, the explosion prompted authorities to issue an alert. The grenade blast took place late on Sunday night in front of Triveni gate. The police is currently verifying CCTV images and noted that some unidentified motorcyclists placed the grenade in front of the entrance. Further details are awaited.
