‘Threat To Human Rights Highest In Police Station’ Says CJI NV Ramana
The Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, in a function on Sunday, said: “In spite of constitutional declarations and guarantees, lack of effective legal representation at the police stations is a huge detriment to arrested/detained persons. The decisions taken in these early hours will later determine the ability of the accused to defend himself,” While addressing an event organized by NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) at the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, CJI Ramana observed that even the privileged are not spared the third-degree treatment, but he did not refer to any particular case. During the launch of the legal services app, the CJI said: “The installation of display boards and outdoor hoardings in every police station or prison is a step in this direction,” However, he also added that NALSA should actively carry out the sensitization of police officers. Adding that the vulnerable population has long lived outside the system of justice, CJI Ramana said: “If, as an institution, the judiciary wants to garner the faith of the citizens, we have to make everyone feel assured that we exist for them,”

ICMR Study: Mixing Covishield And Covaxin Shows Better Results Than The Homologous Approach
The Indian Council of Medical Research’s study found out that mixing covid-19 vaccine doses of Covishield and Covaxin show better immunogenicity than taking the shot of the same vaccine. The study said: “The findings suggested that immunization with a combination of an adenovirus vector platform-based vaccine followed by an inactivated whole virus vaccine was not only safe but also elicited better immunogenicity,” The particular study was conducted on 98 people, out of which 18 inadvertently received two doses of different covid-19 vaccines in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The study further stated: “Immunogenicity profile against Alpha, Beta and Delta variants in the heterologous group was superior and IgG antibody and neutralizing antibody response of the participants was also significantly higher compared to that in the homologous groups,” These findings are important for the nationwide vaccination drive wherein heterologous immunization can provide better protection against the various mutants of the novel coronavirus. Earlier, the Subject Expert Committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) said that the purpose of conducting such studies is to assess if a person can be given two shots of different covid-19 vaccines.
