‘Rashtrapatni ‘ Remark Spurred A Tussle Between Ruling BJP And Opposition Congress

During Lok Sabha proceeding on Thursday, there was an apparent tussle observed between Union Minister Smriti Irani and Congress President Sonia Gandhi over Congress MP and leader of opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary’s remarks on President Droupadi Murmu. On Thursday’s parliamentary proceedings, BJP MPs raised slogans and demanded Sonia Gandhi to apologize for Chowdhary’s ‘Rashtrapatni’ remarks toward the Indian president. For this, BJP MPs have filed a complaint with the Lok Sabha Speaker against Sonia Gandhi, who allegedly shouted at Union Minister Smriti Irani. According to reports, the Union Minister intervened while the Congress president was speaking to BJP MP Rama Devi.  Responding to a news agency, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “Some of our Lok Sabha MPs felt threatened when Sonia Gandhi came up to our senior leader Rama Devi to find out what was happening. During this, one of our members approached there, and the Congress president said you don’t talk to me, putting the member down in the house”. The Finance minister said, “Instead of remorse, from the top leadership of the Congress party, we find greater and greater aggression”. She added, “In every way, the Congress party has been attempting to undermine a tribal, self-made, and successful leader. We, from the BJP, demand the Congress party to apologize to the nation”.   Meanwhile, opposition leader, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, responded to criticism by citing, “I can’t even think of insulting the president. It was just a mistake. If the president felt bad, I would personally meet her and apologize. She can hang me if she wants. I am ready to get punished, but why is the ruling BJP dragging Sonia Gandhi in this”? Notably, both houses of the parliament have been facing regular adjournments and suspension of MPs due to various issues since the start of Parliament’s monsoon session. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB9h3bRNVQU https://twitter.com/adhirrcinc/status/1552533324458889216
