Mallikarjun Kharge Surprise Entry To Congress Presidential Polls Shocked Congressis

Surprising everyone with his last-minute entry into the presidential polls, the leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, is about to file his nomination for the upcoming presidential polls. The decision about the candidature was made official by some Congresspersons who stated that the decision was made after the recent episode of Rajasthan. Earlier, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was the official nominee for the presidential race on behalf of the Gandhi family. However, he decided to pull out of the race as his supporting MLAs refused to support Sachin Pilot as the state Chief Minister.

Sources close to Kharge also revealed that the MP is not averse to contesting but will proceed as per the Gandhi family’s directions. The nomination of Kharge as a candidate for the upcoming elections will mark the third entry in the race, following Thiruvananthapuram MP Dr Shashi Tharoor and Ex Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh.

According to sources, speculations are also high for the candidature of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as, on Thursday, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi drove to Priyanka’s residence and was with her for more than an hour. There, the sources mentioned, the mother and daughter discussed the possibilities of Priyanka’s contest in the event of leadership fielding a “dummy” or “proxy” candidate.
