Narendra Modi, Yogi Adityanath Among Top Leaders Likely to Attend Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Funeral
The funeral of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav will be held today at his ancestral village. The veteran politician died on Monday at a hospital in Gurugram, where he was admitted since August 2022. Mulayam Singh Yadav was aged 82 years old. His funeral is likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The native village of Samajwadi patron Mulayam Singh Yadav, Saifai, was enveloped in the gloom as the news of his death broke. A massive crowd of supporters gathered as they showered petals on the hearse vehicle, which was part of a 300-strong convoy. Mulayam Singh Yadav is remembered for his long tenure as a strong socialist leader who became a key player in Uttar Pradesh politics. Many leaders across various political parties gave tributes to Mulayam Singh Yadav. And Yogi Adityanath has also announced a three-day state mourning.

TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya Arrested in Alleged Teachers’ Recruitment Scam in West Bengal
Early this morning, Trinamool Congress MLA Manik Bhattacharya was arrested after being questioned overnight by the Enforcement Directorate in the alleged teachers’ recruitment scam in West Bengal. MLA Manik Bhattacharya represents the Palashipara Assembly constituency. Mr Bhattacharya is the second TMC leader to be arrested in connection with the scam. The first was former Minister Partha Chatterjee, who was arrested in July this year after piles of cash were recovered from one of his close associates. The ED has alleged that Partha Chatterjee and his close aid Arpita Mukherjee laundered money by illegally giving teaching post jobs on recommendations by the SSC in state-sponsored and aided schools and generated huge proceeds of crime. All of the events took place when Mr Chatterjee was the state education minister. The Central Bureau of Investigation is also probing alleged irregularities in the teachers’ recruitment on the direction of the Calcutta High Court.
As Russian Bombardments Struck Ukraine On Oct 10, Prez Vladimir Putin Vows More Severe Attacks
On October 10, Ukraine was brutally attacked by Russian forces, which launched a barrage of fatal bombardments. As per reports, Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed even more severe retaliation against Kyiv. The October attacks were apparently done in retaliation to the Moscow-annexed Crimean Peninsula. As per the Ukrainian military, Russian forces have fired over 80 missiles across cities, and Russia also used Iranian drones launched from Belarus. While addressing his security council, Vladimir Putin said: “Let there be no doubt. If attempts at terrorist attacks continue, the response from Russia will be severe,” Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Russian strikes had aimed to take down Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Russian defence ministry confirmed that it had targeted Ukrainian energy, communication facilities and military command. It also added that strikes have been successful and achieved their aims. “Mr Putin is desperate because of battlefield defeats and uses missile terror to try to change the pace of war in his favour,” said Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba.
Covid-Bulletin: India Registers 1,957 Cases; Recovery Rate At 98.75%
According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, India has recorded 1,957 new covid-19 cases. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 27,374. Meanwhile, daily recoveries continue to outnumber active covid-19 cases, registering 2,654 recoveries in the previous 24 hours, and the total recoveries have reached 4,40,60,198. The daily and weekly positivity rates currently stand at 0.71% and 1.21%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 89.74 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, India has administered 219.04 crore covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
