Researchers based in South Africa have conducted a study and found that the Pfizer vaccine is providing less immunity to omicron than other variants of the virus.

Experts have said that even though the vaccine is robust it does not offer complete protection and fails to completely mitigate the disease caused by this new strain. According to company officials, there will be more breakthroughs of vaccine-induced immunity as pushed the idea of receiving booster doses for protecting individuals against new variants. A booster dose is expected to decrease the chances of severe infection to more severe diseases.

However, these are early studies on the efficacy of existing vaccines against omicron. The preliminary results have questioned the immune protection from the vaccine. According to a WHO official no indication suggests existing vaccines are failing to protect people infected with omicron and its worst outcomes.
