Russia-Ukraine War: President Zelensky Insists On A Meeting With Putin

On Monday, media reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the Russia-Ukraine war. Zelensky, in an interview, said: "I believe that until such time as we have a meeting with the president of the Russian Federation…you cannot truly understand what they are prepared to do in order to stop the war and what they are prepared to do if we are not ready for this or that compromise," Meanwhile, Russian assault on Ukraine has taken thousands of lives and driven almost a quarter of Ukraine population to leave their homes. As the war continues to intensify, on Tuesday, Ukraine's military asked the residents to brace themselves for indiscriminate Russian shelling. Four weeks into the Russian invasion, it has not been able to capture any significant Ukrainian city and hence, resorting to measures like destructing residential areas using air strikes, long-range missiles and artillery. Ukrainian President Zelensky also called on Europe to halt all trade with Russia and said: "Please do not sponsor the weapons of war of this country, of Russia. No euros for the occupiers. Close all of your ports to them. Don't export them your goods. Deny energy resources. Push for Russia to leave Ukraine," Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has issued one of his strongest warnings that Russia is considering using chemical weapons to achieve its intention in Ukraine.  https://youtu.be/Y0iwmU3ng4M

Farm Laws: Supreme Court-Appointed Committee Recommended The Approval Of The 3 Repealed Farm Laws

While the 3 controversial farm laws have been repealed, the Supreme-Court appointed panel that was constituted to study the 3 farm laws in-depth had recommended that the farm laws should not be repealed, saying that they would benefit farmers. The report of the committee submitted to the Top Court on 19th March 2021 was made public on Monday. Apart from recommending the approval of farm laws, the committee also suggested several changes in the law, including giving freedom to states to make the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system legal. One of the panel members, Anil Ghanwat (President of the Swatantra Bharat Party), released the report and said: "On March 19, 2021, we submitted the report to the Supreme Court. We wrote letters to the apex court three times requesting it to release the report. But we did not get any response. I am releasing this report today. The three laws have been repealed. So there is no relevance now," However, he also added that the report would help in making policies for the agriculture sector in India. The two other members of the committee were Ashok Gulati, an agri-economist and former chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices and Pramod Kumar Joshi, also an agri-economist. On November 19, 2021, PM Modi withdrew the 3 farm laws (Farmer's Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act; The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act; and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act). He added that the government failed to convince protesting farmers about the benefits of the farm laws.  https://twitter.com/anil_ghanwat/status/1506009315571757058
