Telangana Government Stages Protest Against Centre’s Paddy Procurement Policy
The Telangana government has announced to stage a protest against the central government’s “discriminatory” paddy procurement policy. The dharna would be joined by Telangana government elected representatives, TRS Party MPs, MLCs, MLAs and elected representatives of urban and rural local bodies. The union government’s paddy procurement policy will affect 61 lakh farmers and their families. The Telangana government claims that the centre is not procuring paddy from the Telangana farmers. However, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goel, said that there is no discrimination against the farmers from different states. He further added that some politicians in Telangana are misleading the farmers. For the unversed, the Telangana government has been long pressing New Delhi with the demand to procure the entire paddy produced in the state.
Covid-Bulletin: India Registers 861 New Cases; Recovery Rate At 98.76%
According to the latest data released by the union health ministry, India has registered 861 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 11,058. Meanwhile, daily recoveries continue to outnumber active covid-19 cases with, registering 929 recoveries in the previous 24 hours. The total recoveries have now reached 4,25,03,383. The daily and weekly positivity rates currently stand at 0.32% and 0.23%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 79.41 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, India has administered 185.74 crore covid-19 vaccine doses so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

Communal Clashes Reported In 4 States On The Occasion of Ram Navami
On the occasion of Ram Navami on Sunday, 4 states, including Gujarat, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, witnessed incidents of communal clashes. In Madhya Pradesh, stones were hurled at a Ram Navami possession, triggering tensions between communities. Following the incident, the Madhya Pradesh government imposed a curfew in Khargone city. Meanwhile, in Gujarat, clashes were reported in Himmatnagar and Khambat, wherein the police had to control mobs by firing tear gas shells. In Jharkhand, police said that communal violence was reported from areas like Lohardaga, and dozens of vehicles were torched by miscreants.
