Government Terms Whatsapp’s Decision Of Challenging New IT Rules As ‘Act Of Defiance’
After Facebook-owned company Whatsapp challenged one of the rules under new IT rules 2021 in Delhi High court, the government of India has termed the move as an ‘act of defiance’. While emphasising that the Right to Privacy is not absolute and comes with reasonable restrictions, the government of India said that the social media giant is making an unfortunate attempt to prevent the implementation of the new IT rules. Ravi Shankar Prasad, IT minister, said: “The government is committed to ensuring the Right to Privacy to all its citizens, but at the same time it is also the responsibility of the government to maintain law and order and ensure national security,” Whatsapp has challenged one of the rules in IT rules 2021 that enables Whatsapp to break the end-to-end encryption.
Covid Bulletin: India Sees A Slight Rise In The Newly Reported Covid-19 Infections; Daily Positivity Rate Stands At 9.79%
According to the data released by the union health ministry, a total of 2,11,298 people have tested positive for covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The cumulative caseload of the country now stands at 2,73,69,093. The newly reported covid-19 has marked a slight increase. However, India’s positivity rate stands less than 10% for three consecutive days. The death tally of the country is at 3,15,235. Surpassing the new cases, the number of recoveries has gone up to 2,46,33,951.
Cyclone Yaas: 4 Dead, 20 Lakh Evacuated As The Storm Leaves A Trail Of Destruction In West Bengal, Odisha
With a wind speed of up to 130-145 kmph, cyclone Yaas has caused heavy rain, dumped houses and farmlands in Odisha and West Bengal. As more as 20 lakh people had been already evacuated as the cyclone made landfall around 9 pm near Dhamra port, Odisha. The severe cyclonic storm has caused the death of 3 people in Odisha and 1 in West Bengal. The special relief commissioner said that due to heavy rainfall in Similipal National Park, Mayurbhanj district, the water level has risen to 21 metre against the dangerous level of 27 metre. The Indian Army has deployed 17 columns in West Bengal to conduct rescue operations.

Antigua And Barbuda Prime Minister To Dominica: Hand Over Mehul Choksi To India
After Mehul Choksi went missing on Tuesday morning, it was reported that he was arrested in Dominica in the evening itself. Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne said that he has given clear instructions to the neighbouring country of Dominica to repatriate Mr Choksi to India. Fugitive jeweller Mehul Choksi, along with his nephew Nirav Modi is wanted by the CBI in connection with an INR 13,500 crore loan fraud in the Punjab National Bank. Choksi had taken the citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda in 2017 and left India in 2018.

The American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has told the government of India that their vaccine has found to be highly effective against the Indian variant of covid-19 and is in talks with the central government of rolling out five-crore doses between July and September if it receives relaxations, including indemnification or protection from compensation claims in adverse cases. This type of protection has not been given to any of the three vaccines currently being used in India – Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik. Reportedly, Pfizer has told the government that their vaccine is suitable for everyone over 12 and can be stored for a month in cold storage facilities.

During a telephonic conversation on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron exchanged their perspective on India-EU relations. They agreed that “the announcements regarding resumption of negotiations for balanced and comprehensive free trade and investment agreements, and India-EU Connectivity Partnership were welcome steps,” as stated by PMO. India and European Union started talks on a free trade pact, a separate investment agreement, and a third on geographical indications. Prime minister Modi also thanked Macron for providing assistance to India in its fight against covid-19.

Kumar’s mother has said that the media trial of the wrestler has seriously harmed his reputation, career and dignity and seeks directions from the court to restrain the media trial. The plea read: “The excessive publicity of the accused or the suspect in the media before the trial in a court of law, either incriminates a fair trial or results in characterising the accused or suspect as the one who has certainly committed the crime, this amounts to undue interference with the “administration of justice”, which calls for proceedings against media for contempt of court,” Sushil Kumar has been arrested in connection with the murder of junior wrestler Sagar Rana who passed away on 4th May at the Chattrasal Stadium.
