Covid-19 Update: ICMR Permits Home-Based Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) Kit

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), on Wednesday, issued an advisory stating that “Home testing by RAT is advised only in symptomatic individuals and immediate contacts of laboratory-confirmed positive cases”. The home-based Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kit has been approved by the ICMR and soon will be available in the market. The kit can be used to detect positive cases at home. The app is also available on Google play store and Apple play store. The test kit is made to increase the testing and aims to reduce the chances of a symptomatic patient transmitting the virus to someone else. Mylab Discovery Solutions is currently manufacturing the test kit.

Cyclone Tauktae Continues To Create Havoc; Indian Navy Leading Massive Rescue Operations

A fresh aerial search and rescue mission is launched by the Indian Navy on Thursday morning. The accommodation barge went adrift with 261 personnel on board due to the impact of cyclone Tauktae. The Indian Navy informed that 37 personnel have unfortunately died. Though they are working day and night to trace any movement, chances of finding any more survivors are starting to fade. Apart from this, IMD has also warned for cyclone Yaas.

 

AIIMS Delhi Is Recording Over 20 Cases Of Mucormycosis On A Daily Basis

According to Dr MV Padma Srivastava, Head, Department of Neurology, AIIMS Delhi is reporting over 20 cases of Mucormycosis (black fungus) disease daily. She said that earlier, the numbers were single-digit, but now it has crossed the three-digit mark. Mucormycosis cases started being reported two months ago, and state including Maharashtra and Gujarat have reported more than 1800 cases so far. Delhi is also reporting many cases with maximum patients are those who are taking a high dose of steroids or have uncontrolled diabetes. Earlier, the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, said that the state government would take all the necessary steps to take care of Mucormycosis cases in the capital.

Covid Bulletin: Active Cases Declines By Nearly One Lakh; Fatality Count Still Scaling Records

Although India is continuously recording a dip in active cases, the fatality count is still a matter of concern. In the last 24 hours, over 3,874 people died, taking the total tally to 2,87, 122. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, India has tested 32,23,56,187 samples as of 19th May. About the vaccination process in the country, India has administered a cumulative total of 18,70,09,92 vaccine doses.

ViraGen, A Polymerase Chain Reaction Test For Covid-19 Launched By Cipla

The pharma company, on Thursday, announced the test kit ‘ViraGen’ in partnership with Ubio Biotechnology Systems Pvt Ltd. ViraGen is a polymerase chain reaction (Covid-19 RT PCR) test kit and based on multiplex PCR technology. Compared to a standard ICMR test, ViraGen helps to detect SARS CoV-2 N Gene with a sensitivity of 98.6%. The supply of the detection kit will commence from 25th May.

FIR Filed Against Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Female Actor Munmun Dutta

According to an official, an FIR has been filed against Television actor and Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fame, Munmun Dutta in Indore for allegedly making a racist remark against a Scheduled Caste community in one of her video. The complaint is filed by Akhil Bharatiya Balai Mahasangh President Manoj Parmar. Munmun Dutta, who essays the role of Babita in the hit show, had issued an apology on her social media accounts on 10th May, even before the case was filed.
