Covid Bulletin: India’s Active Caseload Declines Further; Lowest Single-Day Rise In 50 Days

According to the data released by the union health ministry, India recorded 1,27,510 infections in the last 24 hours, which is the lowest single-day covid-19 rise in around 50 days. The total tally of covid-19 in India stands at 2,81,75,044. A cumulative total of 2,795 people have succumbed to death in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, recoveries continue to outnumber the daily covid-19 cases, and the daily positivity rate drops below 7%.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Writes To PM Modi: “Sought Free Covid-19 Vaccines For The 18-44 Age Group”

Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Chief Minister, wrote to PM Modi to make the vaccines free for the 18-44 age group as the states are already stressed due to the second wave of the covid-19 pandemic will be unable to incur nearly 1,100 crores needed for the vaccine doses. The letter said: “The financial burden on the state for vaccination of the age cohort of 18-44 years is likely to be more than ?1,100 crores considering 1.57 crore eligible beneficiaries. With vaccine being available for the age cohort of 12-18 years and below, the mentioned financial burden will further increase by around ?1,000 crores. It will be extremely difficult to spare as many resources from the resource pool of the state which is already stressed during Covid times.”

Centre Plans To Ramp Up The Inoculation Drive In The Country; To Target 1 Crore Doses Per Day From Mid-July Or August

As India’s active covid-19 caseload is declining, it is all more important to vaccinate citizens at a fast pace. A government official, in a report of Times of India, quoted that once the supply of vaccines is improved, the number of vaccine doses administered per day will go up remarkably. The centre is planning to ramp up the mission mode to target an average of 1 crore vaccine doses per day from mid-July or August. Approximately 20 crore doses consisting of 10 crores of Covishield, 7.5 crores of Covaxin and 2.5 crores of Sputnik V is expected to be supplied in July. Moderna is also planning to launch a single-dose covid-19 vaccine in the country next year in collaboration with Cipla, among other firms. Pfizer is also ready to offer 5 crore doses to India in 2021. According to the union health ministry, a total of 21,60,46,638 vaccine doses have been administered in India so far.

Delhi Government Allows Home Delivery Of Alcoholic Beverages

After liquor manufacturers asked the Arvind Kejriwal-led government to allow home-delivery of alcoholic beverages amid lockdown in the capital, the Delhi government announced that Indian and foreign brands of liquor can now be delivered to citizens home. People have to place an order through a mobile application or an online portal. Apart from Delhi, Maharashtra has also allowed home delivery after facing the wrath of the second wave of the covid-19 pandemic.

Uttar Pradesh: Lockdown Lifted In 6 More Districts With Less Than 600 Active Covid-19 Cases

The Yogi Adityanath-led government has announced ease of restrictions in districts with less than 600 covid-19 cases. These six districts are Prayagraj, Moradabad, Deoria, Bijnor, Sonbhadra and Baghpat. While addressing a press conference on Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh CM said: “curfew will continue in districts that have more than 600 active COVID-19 cases for one more week. When active cases will come under 600, the curfew will end automatically. We’ve eased restrictions in 55 districts from 7 am to 7 pm,” According to the data released by the Uttar Pradesh government, the state has the lowest positivity rate and the highest recovery rate in the country.

Twitter Strives To Comply With The New IT Rules Says Twitter Spokesperson

An official statement released by Twitter spokesperson read: “As we have stated earlier, Twitter strives to comply with applicable laws in India. We continue to be strictly guided by principles of transparency, a commitment to empowering every voice on the service, and protecting freedom of expression and privacy under the Indian law,” After the central government enacted the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, all social media giants, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, are required to make changes accordingly if they want to continue to function in India. The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Twitter after a plea was filed against it for alleged non-compliance with the IT rules 2021.
