Update on the CoWIN Vaccine Registration process for 18-44 Age Group: All You Need To Know

Earlier this week, the government of India declared that starting April 28, people in the age group of 18-44 will be able to register for vaccination on the CoWIN portal. To go about the process, all one needs to do is visit the CoWIN website, and click on the “Register /Sign in Yourself” tab to register for the Covid-19 vaccination. Alternatively, one can also complete the registration process using the Aarogya Setu App. The registration is completely free of cost and up to 4 people can be registered for vaccination using the same cell phone number. As part of the registration process, the ID proofs which are accepted are: Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, Passport, NPR Smart Card, Pension Passbook, or Voter ID (EPIC).

The Appointment Update

However, an important point to be noted here is that, at the time, the link is open solely for the purpose of registration and will not allow you to schedule an appointment. The appointments or the scheduling of vaccination will be available only from May 1 onwards. The government has strongly encouraged everyone falling under the age group of 18-44 to mandatorily register themselves and schedule their appointments online prior to getting vaccinated. At the moment, walk-in facility or on-spot registration is not allowed in private hospitals for the said age group. From May 1, the state governments and private hospitals will concern themselves with procuring 50% of the total doses from the open market in order to carry out the vaccination of this demographic. The availability of slots is going to be completely dependant on the availability of the doses themselves.
