Why Did Sudhir Chaudhary Resigned From Zee News? Here’s What We Know!

Recently, Sudhir Chaudhary, CEO and editor-in-chief of Zee News resigned from the organization. The reason he cited behind his resignation involved his willingness of starting something new of his own. Journalist Chaudhary joined the Zee news for the second time in 2012. Prior to his joining, he had worked in Sahara Samay and India TV. Sudhir Chaudhary is a popular anchor of famous news show Daily News and Analysis (DNA).  In his resignation letter, Chaudhary cited: “This decision of mine is the outcome of my internal deliberations, which I have been contemplating for quite some time: working on my own company. I assure you that my proposed new company (if you have success) will make you happy and proud of me. My success will be a testament to my apprenticeship for over 15 years (composed of two terms) at Zee and other TV news channels…” Accepting Sudhir’s resignation, Subhash Chandra, chairman of the Essel Group replied: I hosted a couple of meetings in last few days where I tried to convince him to stay behind. However, as he had already made his mind to start his own company using his followers, I did not want to obstruct his way of progression, so I have accepted it and wished him with much success,”  https://twitter.com/sudhirchaudhary/status/1545981480882425858

The Career of Sudhir Chaudhary

Sudhir Chaudhary is a famous name in the media world and has been working in the television news industry for almost three decades now. He started his career as a news anchor with Zee. However, in 2003, he left Zee News and joined the newly launched news channel Sahara Samay.  There he worked for a significant period of time. Prior to joining Zee network in 2012, Sudhir joined India TV for a short period. After rejoining Zee News, he started hosting the news show Daily News and Analysis (DNA). Well! This was all about the history and publicly revealed information of Sudhir Chaudhary’s resignation from Zee network. However, the learnt sources with the event cite some entirely different reasons behind Chaudhary’s resignation from the post of CEO and editor-in-chief of Zee news. Some of these reasons involve:

Power Tussle

According to sources, Subhash Chandra was a little upset with the BJP after he lost in the Rajya Sabha election. Due to this, Chandra wanted the news bulletins to be neutral, much against the will of Sudhir Chaudhary.  The source said that those shows were against Chaudhary’s will, as he did not want to be neutral. So, Chandra attempted to share Chaudhary’s authority with him. As per the source: “People were being made to stand parallel to him. This disrupted the power balance within the organization. Chaudhary was not happy and worried about the concept of power sharing,”  The source further added that: “Sudhir had become Zee News, which the chairman did not like in any way. So, rather than firing Sudhir, the chairman insisted Sudhir that he should resign on his own,”  Adding fuel to the fire, there entered new candidate Rajnish Ahuja who wanted to bring in his own people. This caused Sudhir to feel that he was being sidelined. Therefore, looking after the circumstances he decided to quit the company.

Jindal Extortion Case

In November 2012, Sudhir Chaudhary and his colleague Sameer Ahluwalia were arrested on charges of extortion. The charges were framed on them by a businessman Naveen Jindal who alleged that Chaudhary and Ahluwalia had tried to extort Rs 100 million from his company in exchange for not sharing link between Jindal group and the Coalgate scam.  Under extortion charges, Chaudhary and Ahluwalia were sent to judicial custody for 14 days in Tihar jail. This stigmatized Chaudhary’s image as a trusted journalist. The effect of extortion also caused Chaudhary to vacate his position as the treasurer of the Broadcast Publishers Association, as the association suspended him from his post. According to sources, the effect of extortion case was disturbing Chaudhary for the past few days as board members were pointing fingers at him due to those charges. Due to this reason, Chaudhary decided to resign from his post.

Other Allegations on Sudhir Chaudhary

In one of his show, Chaudhary accused Trinamool  Congress MP Mahua Moitra of plagiarizing Truman Longman’s speech, which pointed to early signs of fascism in India. However, both Longman and Moitra later denied plagiarizing of speech.  Even Mahua Moitra filed a criminal defamation case against Sudhir Chaudhary, after which Chaudhary in his show DNA accepted his mistake and cited that only a part of Mahua Moitra’s speech was broadcast and showed his regret over the remarks. However, Zee media also filed a defamation case against Moitra as she used ‘chor’ and ‘paid news channel’ while referring to the Zee channel. In another instance, Sudhir Chaudhary, on April 10, 2020, openly accused Muslims of impeding India’s war against the Covid-19 disease. In his show, Chaudhary cited: “Tablighi Jamaat betrayed the nation,”   Due to such communal reportings, Zee media started losing its popularity. Due to which, board members of Zee media restricted Sudhir’s powers to cover communally sensitive issues, which he was unhappy for. So, he preferred to resign from his post.

Current Stand of Sudhir Chaudhary
