iPhone 14: Underwhelming, Pricey, And A Clone of iPhone 13!

The much-awaited iPhone 14 was launched on September 7. It is a well established fact that Apple’s products are beyond a product; they define what class actually looks like. Probably, this was why many ardent Apple lovers were waiting for iPhone 14’s launch. Well, if you are an iPhone13 user and want to switch to the upgraded version, you should read this product review first before making any decision.

Not everything is wrong with the updated smartphone but the similarity with the existing version makes it a not-so-good option to look for. However, upper models like iPhone 14 Pro and Max offer many more features than the standard model.

As mentioned in its product description, the base model of iPhone 14 has a lot in common with the existing iPhone 13 pro and pro max versions. The non-addition of new features has disappointed iPhone lovers.

Apple iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13: Which Is Better?

The first and foremost factor which customers look for in any product is its price range. iPhone 14 price for base model starts from Rs 79,900 and the amount increases with the addition of specifications such as storage version, colour, and other aspects.

In contrast to the basic version, iPhone 14 Pro’s price range starts from Rs 1,29,900 and goes up with addition of features.

While iPhone 14 Plus and Pro Max come with a newer and stylish look, the base model gives you the same look as that of the iPhone 13. This means that the display notch matches to iPhone 13. Also, the diagonal layout of the rear camera makes it difficult for you to categorize the earlier model from the newly launched base model of the iPhone 14.

The dimension of base model is 5.78 x 2.82 x 0.31 inches with a weight of 6.07 ounces. The iPhone 14 Pro comes with a greater dimension at 6.33 x 3.07 x 0.31 inches and weighs 7.16 ounces.

With the launch of iPhone 14, Apple has once more confirmed its obsession with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display that offers 1,200-nit peak brightness, HDR, a wide colour gamut, Haptic Touch, and the same 60 Hz refresh rate.

The modification that Apple has made is in the Plus and Max models, which comes with a 6.7-inch display. However, the refresh rate remains the same at 60 Hz. This could disappoint Apple users as a much better refresh rate of 120 Hz is available in low-range smartphones easily.

This is also a controversial factor about the newly released iPhone versions. The reason remains the use of the A15 Bionic processor, which the company has already used in iPhone 13 as well. The only difference in processor lies in the GPU of the processor. iPhone 13 has a 4-core GPU, whereas the iPhone 14 comes with an additional GPU core.

While the issue exists with the standard model, iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with a highly advanced A16 Bionic processor, which is unmatched in the entire smartphone industry and is popular for delivering cutting-edge performance to users.

The camera setup with 12MP sensors in iPhone 14 also remains identical to that of iPhone 13 with a standard wide and ultra-wide lens. However, Apple has made some changes in the design of hardware to improve picture quality. One such modification is the addition of Photogenic engine tech in the iPhone 14 pro. This works on the Deep fusion process for taking 2.5 times better pictures in low light.

Battery Life

Battery is an area where Apple is not working with its upgraded versions, again disappointing for Apple lovers! Throughout its iPhone series, Apple remains popular for its low-performing battery life. In fact, it has modified its software in such a way that the apps working on the phone can consume every ounce of the battery.

The standard model of  iPhone 14 comes with a battery backup that could last up to 26 hours of video playback. Similarly, the Pro version comes with a battery backup which could last up to 29 hours of video playback time.

These are some aspects which customers consider on a priority basis while purchasing a new product. Well, with the above-mentioned specifications, it seems quite clear that Apple has played a marketing tactic with customers. It is because it wanted to attract customers to high-priced models; hence, it added more features to the Pro and Max versions. In fact, it offered a step-motherly treatment to the base model by making it exactly like iPhone 13 and its pro version.
