Product Review: Xiaomi Launches Pad 5, Is It Worth Buying?
After a long hiatus, Xiaomi has relaunched its tablet portfolio in India with the launch of the Xiaomi Pad 5. Unlike many others in its class, this feature-rich tablet offers a high-resolution display, powerful processor, and even support. There are, however, a few significant omissions that may cause deals for others. Unlike the original Mi Pad, the Xiaomi Pad 5 looks very premium. A metal frame is attached between the display and a polycarbonate back panel. The perfect construction sounds excellent. The Xiaomi Smart Pen can magnetically attach to the tablet’s top edge for storage and charging, while the Xiaomi Pad Keyboard connects to the bottom of the tablet. Both accessories need to be purchased separately.
Xiaomi Pad 5
Talking about Xiaomi Pad 5 specifications, the 10.95-inch LCD panel on the pad has a resolution of 1,600 x 2,560 pixels. It features a 120Hz refresh rate that makes the UI feel wet. The display also has HDR10 +, and Dolby Vision approved for better brightness and colour when streaming supported content.
The 10-bit display also has a maximum brightness of up to 650 nits. Adding to the certification is a quad-based speaker set based on Dolby Atmos. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 SoC in Xiaomi Pad 5 looks old but should be good enough for tablet production and entertainment needs.
Unfortunately, Pad 5 has no mobile variants, so you will have to rely on Wi-Fi to get an internet connection. The tablet also supports Bluetooth 5 and an OTG-supported USB Type-C port. There is no fingerprint reader, so users are limited to a 2D face recognition system or an old security passcode.
Xiaomi Pad 5 uses MIUI 13, which has several easy-to-use tablet settings, allowing apps to run on floating windows and more. However, this version of MIUI 13 uses Android 11 as a base.
The interface is customized but works well. The Xiaomi Pad 5 has an 8,720mAh fast-charging battery that uses a combined 22.5W integrated charger. Xiaomi Pad 5 supports fast charging of up to 33W, but you must purchase that charger separately. Xiaomi also included a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera on the Pad 5.
Xiaomi Pad 5 is available in two types of storage, and Xiaomi Pad 5 price in India varies on the storage size. The 128GB variant is priced at Rs. 26,999 and 256GB variant is available for Rs. 28,999. Both storage variants come with 6GB of RAM and do not have MicroSD storage space expansion.
Xiaomi’s Pad 5 seems to be much more versatile than the first Mi Pad introduced in India. However, the Xiaomi Pad 5 is part of a completely different price range. The Pad 5 competes with products mainly from Samsung, such as the Galaxy Tab A8, the more expensive Galaxy Tab S7 FE and Lenovo’s Yoga Smart Tab and the pricier Tab P11 Pro.
