Akash Chopra Makes Bold Claim About South African Cricket Team’s Chances Of Winning The T20 World Cup
The T20 World Cup is just around the corner and the teams and the fans are excited about the tournament. The ICC is working on neutralizing the main threat of Covid-19 and though the original venue (India) might be changed, the show must go on!! That is the update that is coming in as of now, as the teams focus on playing positive cricket.
Every team will be in it to win, including one of the underdogs in most ICC tournaments, South Africa. The Proteas do have a lot of fans and critics at the same time. Their overall record in ICC tournaments has not been up to the mark and they will want to improve that.
What Was Akash Chopra’s Statement About South Africa’s Performance In The T20 World Cup?
The main problem with the South African cricket team is that they have opted against the recall of AB de Villiers. He was one of their talisman players and a big-time game changer. Despite his age, he was looking really good for the Royal Challengers Bangalore side in IPL 2021.
With that being said, not a lot of fans and Pundits were pleased with this decision. Akash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “The chances of their progress would have been better if AB de Villiers was there. However, if he is not there, it is impossible to get a player of his quality. The team still has some good players. Despite that, is it a team that can win the World Cup, I personally do not think so.”
“This team can do well, trouble a few people and spoil other teams’ parties. In spite of that, they might not be able to win the World Cup. That is because wherever it happens, whether in India or the UAE, I have my reservations with regards to their chances to win the tournament in these conditions.”
It is a fact that the South African team would want every top player that they can have. The current squad does look a decent one and can try their best. However, it is not going to be easy for them to beat some of the other teams that are in top form. Let’s wait and watch what happens next!!
