Bangalore Clinch Victory In A Last Ball Thriller Against Mumbai

Royal Challengers Bangalore have won the first match of the tournament against Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Mumbai Indians have not won the opening match of the tournament in last few years and the tradition has continued this time too. However, Rohit Sharma and Co have almost pulled it back after a massive collapse at the back end of their innings while batting.

Mumbai Indians have scored 159 runs while batting first after losing the toss. Chris Lynn has been the highest scorer for them in the first match of the tournament. After building a solid foundation, they have lost their way in the death overs. They have managed to score only 24 runs in last five overs of their innings and they have lost five wickets in this time period. It is certainly difficult for any team of the World for making a comeback in the match from that scenario.

On the other hand, many things have gone in favour of Royal Challengers Bangalore in this match. They have started the tournament with a positive note. The team management of Royal Challengers Bangalore will be glad to witness the form of Glenn Maxwell. If Maxwell continues to play in this way throughout the whole season, Bangalore have a good chance to win the trophy finally this time.

The death bowling has always been an issue for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous years. Harshal Patel has been the answer of this puzzle for the franchise as he has shown his class in this match. In the previous season, Harshal Patel has played for Delhi Capitals. He has not been regular in the starting XI. He has been brought to Royal Challengers Bangalore this season and the five wicket haul in the first match of the season will certainly speak for him. He has picked up five crucial wickets of Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen. The captain of Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma has admitted that they have always been 20 runs short and Harshal Patel’s brilliant bowling performance has been the reason of that. Kyle Jamieson and Mohamed Siraj have also been economical for Bangalore in this match.

Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell’s partnership in the middle of Bangalore’s innings has been crucial for them to reach the target of 160. After losing the wickets of Maxwell and Dan Christian, Bangalore have suddenly felt some discomfort in the run chase. However, AB de Villiers has come to rescue them once again. His brilliant innings has pushed Royal Challengers Bangalore close to the target. They have been able to score 2 runs in last 2 balls to clinch the victory after ABD’s dismissal in the last over.

Both teams have a lots of positives to take away from this game. Mumbai Indians will play their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders and they will hope to make a solid comeback in that match. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore will try to maintain their winning run in the tournament.
