Harbhajan Singh Mentions Indian Spinner Who Is A Must-Have For The T20 World Cup
Team India has a lot of talent amongst their ranks. Picking the right ones is a necessity for the upcoming T20 World Cup. This makes it important to have the players in form and maintain a proper balance within the squad. The right set of players need to be picked and utilized in the games of the competition, with sufficient rest. This makes the job of the selectors of the Indian team equally crucial.
There are a lot of talented batsmen, bowlers and even wicketkeepers to pick from. Virat Kohli and co. will have a good job in getting the right players and then making them click. With selection headaches not being a new thing for Team India, there are a lot of players aspiring to make it to the team.
Amidst Pundits and former players making predictions and bold claims, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has made a statement too. Bhajji wants Kohli to take one spinner whom he feels is a must-pick for the T20 World Cup.
Which Bowler Does Harbhajan Singh Feels, Is A Must For Team India For The T20 World Cup?
There are a lot of quality spinners in the Indian team right now. However, Harbhajan Singh has a favourite that he wants to be picked. The player is his new team-mate at KKR, Varun Chakravarthy. The leg-spinner who has had some fitness issues in recent times is the player Harbhajan wants in the squad.
He feels that the bowler is a must-have and can turn games around. Keeping that in mind, he said in a recent interview with Sports Tak, “I feel that he is T20 World Cup material for sure. The main reason is that he has all types of qualities. He can always take wickets, stop runs, bowl in the Powerplay. To add to that, can even bowl in the death overs. His only shortcoming is that he remains way too nervous. I spent some time with him in KKR. He himself does not know what he is capable of.”
Talking about the first time Harbhajan saw him play, he added, “The first time I had seen him was during a net session with the Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni was hitting the rest of the fast bowlers and spinners for sixes. However, when Chakravarthy was bowling, he had Dhoni in all sorts of trouble. He even managed to dismiss him several times. No one was able to hit him in the nets. That is when I had predicted that this guy is going to play for India. He has a bit of nervous energy but the more he plays, the better he is going to get.”
“Give him some time. I honestly still believe that if India has to do well at the T20 World Cup, the spinners have to do really well first. Varun Chakravarthy should be a definite must for India. He has everything that you need in a spinner. he has qualities that can work for the team. If he needs to bring about an improvement, he should focus more on what he needs to do on the field. With time, he is going to get better and take lots of wickets for India.”
