Facebook Might Change Its Name To Rebrand Itself
Ever since Facebook has taken over other social media giants like Instagram and WhatsApp, it has almost monopolized the world of social media. According to a recent report on the American technology blog The Verge, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is currently planning to change the company’s name and expand its ambitions more. The rebranding concept is not new in the market; many big companies have taken the step to revamp their image. For example, in 2016, Snapchat changed itself into Snap Inc. and started promoting itself as a ‘camera company’. Google also reorganized itself as Alphabet Inc to expand beyond a search engine company and delve into other ventures such as health technology, autonomous vehicle unit etc. However, it remains to be seen how this Facebook Change Company Name step will go down with Facebook users and how it will affect the company’s overall growth.
Meanwhile, Facebook CEO is planning to reveal about the plan during Facebook’s Annual Connect Conference that is scheduled to take place on 28th October 2021. However, he might reveal the details early also. The announcement came at a point when the Mark Zuckerberg-owned company is facing US government scrutiny over its business practices. All of this started after a whistleblower shared some crucial information about Facebook, which has resulted in rising anger in the US Congress about the company.
Since the rebranding secret is closely guarded, with not even senior leaders having details about it, one can’t possibly find out anything about the new name, and everyone will have to wait till Mr Zuckerberg spills the beans himself. However, one of the words that might be a part of Facebook’s new name is ‘Horizon’, simply because the company recently launched a version for workspace collaboration named ‘Horizon Workrooms’.
Recently, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg lost billions of dollars after Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp went down across the world, triggering a global outage.
While speaking to The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg had said: “The metaverse is going to be a big focus, and I think that this is just going to be a big part of the next chapter for the way that the internet evolves after the mobile internet, and I think it’s going to be the next big chapter for our company too, really doubling down in this area,” The concept of Metaverse is not a very familiar concept for most of the people out there, well, the term was coined by sci-fi novelist Neal Stephenson where people escape to a completely virtual world in order to get away from the real, dystopian world.
In simple words, Facebook is reportedly working on the idea of making an online world where people can use different types of devices to communicate and move in a completely virtual environment. It seems like the company is focusing on the concept from quite a long time, as in recent years, Facebook has been heavily investing in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been talking about the idea of metaverse since July and promoting the concept of people working, exercising and living in a virtual universe. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg once said: “In the coming years, I expect people will transition from seeing us primarily as a social media company to seeing us as a metaverse company,”
Meanwhile, Facebook has declined to comment on the Facebook Change Company Name rumours saying that it doesn’t comment on mere speculations.
