An industry that has given many talented actors to Bollywood is the modeling industry. Many Individuals tried their luck in modeling before entering the showbiz industry, but only a few of them has made it big in Bollywood.
Here are 7 actors who struggled during their, modeling days but soon reached stardom and are still ruling the silver screen.
- Deepika Padukone
Daughter of former Indian Badminton player Prakash Padukone, Deepika started her career as a model. Her modeling career was fruitful; many International brands also signed her. Deepika walked the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week 2005 and got featured in the Kingfisher swimsuit calendar in 2006.
She made a debut in Bollywood with the super-hit film ‘Om Shanti Om’ alongside Shahrukh Khan. She gave hit movies such as Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani, Ram-Leela, Piku, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmavaat.
2. Anushka Sharma
Anushka started her modeling career at the age of 15. She walked the ramp for well-known Indian Designer Wendrell Rodricks at Lakme Fashion Week 2007. Another year late, she made an entry to Bollywood with the Blockbuster film ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ alongside Shahrukh Khan.
Anushka gave hit films like PK, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Sultan, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Sui Dhaaga.
3. John Abraham
Known for his six-pack abs, John Abraham was a model before entering Bollywood. In 1999, John won the Gladrags Manhunt contest, which gave a boost to his career. He made a debut in Bollywood with ‘Jism’ and also won the Best Male Debut Award.
He gave some commercial hits like Dhoom, Garam Masala, Taxi Number 9211, Dostana, and Satyameva Jayate.
4. Bipasha Basu
The Bengali Beauty started her career as a model. She went on to win the Ford Supermodel contest and became a successful model. She made a debut with ‘Ajnabee’ in a supporting role and bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.
Bipasha has hit-films like Raaz, Jism, Race, Phir Hera Pheri, and Raaz 3 to her credit.
5. Arjun Rampal
Arjun Rampal was a very successful model, as he walked the ramp for many famous designers and appeared in many print advertisements. Arjun made his Bollywood Debut with ‘Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat’. He did give a series of flop movies at the early stage of his career but sooner or later made a space in Bollywood.
Arjun gave Semi-hit films like Aankhen, Housefull, Raajneeti, Ra.one, and Heroine.
6. Katrina Kaif
Katrina started her modeling career at the age of 14; she walked the ramp at London’s Fashion Week. Filmmaker Kaizad Gustad spotted her and decided to cast her in his film ‘Boom’. Though the film was a disaster at the box-office. But, Katrina earned a place for herself in Bollywood.
She gave major hits like Welcome, Ek Tha Tiger, Dhoom 3, Tiger Zinda hai and Bharat.

Randeep Hooda is praised for his acting abilities and inevitable talent, but the actor, before entering Bollywood, walked several ramps and appeared in TV and Print Advertisements for well-known Indian brands.
