McConnell Freezes For The Second Time At Press Conference In Kentucky

As per a CNN report, Mitch McConnell froze for the second time on 30 August (Wednesday) while speaking to reporters at Covington in Kentucky. He froze for 30 seconds when reporters were asking questions after his speech. The incident that occurred on Wednesday is similar to the one McConnell faced at the US Capitol in the last month, 14 July 2023. He is 81-year-old and his freezing for the second time probably would raise extra questions about his health and fitness.

The Wednesday incident took place when a reporter asked Mitch McConnell, the Republican Leader, about his plan for reelection in 2026. The leader was seen to request the reporter to repeat the question many times and stay paused by staring straight ahead after closing his mouth. He left the site without leaving any comments on his health

According to a source, who talked to BBC, “Leader McConnell felt momentarily lightheaded and paused during his press conference today”. A staff member with the Republican Leader said to a BBC reporter, "feels fine" but "will be consulting a physician prior to his next event".

Joe Biden, the American President, talked to reporters and said he was planning to contact Mitch McConnell. In his talk with reporters on Wednesday, he said, “Mitch is a friend, as you know – not a joke, I know people don’t believe that’s the case. We have disagreements politically but he’s a good friend and so I’m going to try and get in touch with him later this afternoon. I don’t know enough to know”.
