These Are The Foods You Must Avoid If You Are Thyroid-Positive

Thyroid is a medical condition in which your bodies are unable to produce enough thyroid hormones, but why do we need thyroid hormones? Well, it helps in cell repair and metabolism, so thyroid positive patients might experience tiredness, dizziness, weight gain, weight loss or hair loss. Thyroid is most likely to affect women than men. There are certain medications available to treat thyroid, but knowing what foods are thyroid friendly and which are not can help you restore thyroid function or minimize your symptoms. The thyroid gland sits near the base of your neck. The butterfly-shaped gland makes and stores thyroid hormones that have an effect on every cell in your body. There can be many causes of getting thyroid such as genetic disorder, iodine deficiency or surgery that removes part of the thyroid gland. However, the smartest thing to do is to know everything about the medical condition that you are suffering from, and the first step starts by knowing what foods can worsen your medical condition.

Here are the food items that are a strict no-no when it comes to thyroid:

Foods with soy and tofu

Believe it or not, foods such as soy and tofu acts like poison for thyroid-positive patients due to certain compounds found in soy and tofu. In fact, consuming soya in large quantities can increase the chances of you getting diagnosed with thyroid. Some studies show that soy products don't affect thyroid hormones, but some studies suggest that consuming soy products can interfere with thyroid medications.

Gluten rich food items

If you don't want to upset your thyroid hormones, reduce your gluten intake. Gluten is a protein found in foods made from wheat, barley, rye and other grains. Gluten is found to damage the thyroid gland and upset the body's immune system. However, no studies have shown the clear effect of gluten on thyroid hormones, but we are aware that gluten is terrible for auto-immune disorders.

Heavily processed and fried foods

We all have a soft corner for fast foods, but we can't run away from the fact they are extremely harmful to our health in the long run. People have thyroid must avoid the consumption of heavily processed and fried foods as it can wreck the body and trigger other health conditions as well. Go for a diet plan instead of binging on fried foods.

Sugary foods

There is practically no health benefit that you can get by consuming white sugar; it's just empty calories. Since thyroid can mess with your body's metabolism, it leads to the insufficient breakdown of sugars, so it's best to completely eliminate sugar from your diet or stick to natural sweeteners to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Cruciferous vegetables

Cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower and broccoli contain a high amount of chemical compounds such as glucosinolates and sulfur, which can mess up with the thyroid gland if consumed in large quantities. They can be pretty harmful to thyroid patients, so it's better to reduce their intake.
