Agnipath Scheme Protests: All States On Alert; Over 80 Trains Cancelled

The protestors who are protesting against the centre's Agnipath recruitment scheme have called for a Bharat Bandh today. The protesting armed forces aspirants are protesting in different parts of the country, and many states have taken precautionary measures amid violent protests. The Agnipath recruitment scheme allows short-term recruitment in the Indian armed forces that was announced on June 14. A few days after the announcement, protests erupted in several states, including Bihar, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab, Jharkhand, Assam, Delhi and Odisha. Since then, the protests have been intensifying, with students setting trains on fire, damaging public and private properties and torching vehicles. Punjab has also ramped up its security amid the Bharat Bandh call. "The offices and installations related to Central Government departments shall be strongly protected," an official statement read. Security has been tightened in the Howrah district of West Bengal. "Police force has been deployed at multiple locations. We are ready to tackle any kind of situation that may arise. We also urge the youth to not get involved in any untoward activity,"  said Anupam Singh, DCP North, Howrah. According to Northern Railways, around 18 east-bound train services have been cancelled amid violent protests. Covid-Bulletin: India Registers 12,781 New Covid-19 Cases; Recovery Rate At 98.61%

According to the latest data released by the union health ministry, the country has registered 12,781 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 76,700. Meanwhile, the nation has recorded 8,537 recoveries in the previous 24 hours, and the total recoveries have reached 4,27,07,900. The daily and weekly positivity rates currently stand at 4.32% and 2.62%. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 85.81 crore covid-19 tests so far. Jammu and Kashmir: National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducts Raids In Several Locations

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Monday, carried out searches at multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir. With the assistance of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the raids were mainly carried out at locations of suspects in South Kashmir. The sources close to the development have said that the searches are being conducted in relation to an attack on the security forces on March 11, 2022, at Darasgarh, Pulwama. The NIA has already conducted raids at four locations, including three in Baramulla and one in Handwara, in the cross LoC trade and terror financing case. 

Agnipath Scheme: Congress To Meet The President For Withdrawal of Agnipath Scheme

On Monday, the opposition party Indian National Congress would be holding a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar against the centre's Agnipath recruitment scheme and demanding the President to withdraw the 'anti-youth' scheme. Congress General Secretary Ajay Maken said: "We'll sit on Satyagraha at Jantar Mantar today, and in the evening at 5 pm we'll meet the President and demand that the Agnipath scheme be withdrawn," The Congress leader also noted that the scheme needs to be discussed with the youth first before implementation. "We will also inform the President how our MP was harassed and how ED is being misused," added the Congress leader.  https://twitter.com/INCIndia/status/1538756180830433280
