Delhi Imposes Night Curfew from 10 PM to 5 AM till 30th April Amid Rising Cases of Covid-19

"Night curfew imposed in Delhi from 10 PM to 5 AM with immediate effect till 30th April, in the wake of COVID19 situation." The Delhi government said in a statement. The Kejriwal government has taken a decision to impose a night curfew in the capital from 10 PM to 5 AM amid the second wave of coronavirus in Delhi. The night curfew is imposed with immediate effect, starting today. The curfew will continue to operate till 30th April 2021.  Earlier, a senior government official told PTI, "A proposal for imposing night curfew is under consideration. The details are being discussed, including the time period of the curfew, which could be from 10 pm to 5 am." The night curfew will remain effective from 10 PM to 5 AM. Only essential services and emergency movements of vehicles are permitted during the curfew.  According to the health bulletin released by the Delhi government, 3,548 new cases of covid-19 were reported on Monday (5th April). It's the fourth consecutive day that Delhi has reported more than 3,500 new cases.  The central government announced on 5th April that a review meeting would be held between the chief ministers of all states and prime minister Narendra Modi later this week to discuss the nationwide covid-19 outbreak. Delhi's chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said that lockdown cannot be a solution to fight against the virus. This is not the first time that a night curfew has been imposed in the capital. Last time, it was imposed on 31st December and 1st January to tackle new year gatherings in Delhi. Recently, the Maharashtra government imposed weekend lockdown and night curfew in the state till 30th April. The Uddhav Thackeray government has imposed strict restrictions on restaurants, hotels, bars, and private offices. Both Delhi and Maharashtra have been the worst coronavirus hit states in the country.
