Even Dogs are Not Safe from Humans : Is There Any Humanity Left?

Ahmad Shahi, a vegetable vendor in Juhu, Mumbai, aged 68, has been accused of raping more than 30 stray dogs and has been arrested by the DN Nagar Police, Andheri Mumbai. As horrible and disturbing as it sounds, Ahmad used to first lure the dogs with meat and then rape them as they ate.

Vijay Mohnani, founder of the NGO, Bombay Animal Rights recorded a video of the accused doing the heinous act and submitted the video to the police. After police investigation, it was found that Ahmad has raped more than 30 stray dogs.

“Based on the evidence submitted by the NGO, we registered an FIR against Shahi. We arrested him under relevant sections of IPC, including Section 377 (unnatural sex), 429 (harming animals) and (11) (1) (a) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals 1960”  said a senior offical of DN Nagar police station.

Everyone was so disgusted after the news came in, that netizens started the hashtag #sorrysheru for not protecting and caring enough for stray dogs. People also angrily reacted to Bollywood’s silence on the matter.

Some people have also accussed People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organisation and many left-wing liberals for not reacting to the matter because of Ahmad’s religion.

Infact, Netizens have also accused Islam religion for allegedly supporting the heinous crime of raping dogs.

Has this Level of Animal Cruelty happened before?

Cases like killing of a pregnant Cow in Himachal Pradesh, the death of a pregnant Elephant in Kerela, brutally beating a Tigress in Uttar Pradesh and pushing of a Nilgai (Antelope) into a pit and burring it alive in Bihar have convinced everyone that India needs strict Animal Protection laws.

India has several Animal Protection laws like Wildlife Protection Act 1972, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1960) and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Slaughter House) Rules, 2001 etc. But clearly, these laws are neither being implemented properly nor proving to be enough to protect the Animals.
