Covid-19 Containment Measures Extended Till 31st October

On Tuesday, the central government extended the nationwide covid-19 guidelines, including containment measures till 31st October 2021, given the localised spreads of the virus in a few states and covid-19 still being a public health challenge for the country. Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla also said that people should strictly adhere to covid-appropriate behaviour during the upcoming festival and cautioned that failing to do so can lead to a surge in daily covid-19 cases again. Bhalla added that though covid-19 cases are decreasing steadily on a daily basis, it is still a public health challenge in the country. The guidelines include focusing on districts with high positivity rates and taking proactive containment measures in all those districts to contain the spread of novel coronavirus. Covid-Bulletin: India Records 18,870 New Covid-19 Cases; Recovery Rate At 97.83%

According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, India has registered 18,870 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country stands at 2,82,520, constituting 0.84% of total covid-19 cases reported in the country. Meanwhile, daily recoveries continue to outnumber new covid-19 cases, with recording 28,178 fresh recoveries in the previous 24 hours. The total recoveries in the nation currently stand at 3,29,86,180. The daily and weekly positivity rate stands at 1.25% and 1.82% respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, India has conducted 56.74 crore covid-19 tests so far. Kanhaiya Kumar Quits CPI, Joins Congress In Presence Of Rahul Gandhi

Kanhaiya Kumar, who joined the Communist Party of India ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has now quit the party to join Indian National Congress. Kanhaiya Kumar gained prominence as the president of the JNU students' union and contested the Lok Sabha polls from Begusarai in Bihar against BJP's Giriraj Singh. Speaking about joining the Congress party, Kanhaiya Kumar said: "I am joining the Congress because I strongly feel that if the country has to be saved, the Congress will have to survive. Congress party is like a large ship. If it survives, all other small parties will also survive," On Tuesday, Kanhaiya Kumar joined the party in the presence of party member Rahul Gandhi at the Congress's headquarters in Delhi. With the joining of Kanhaiya Kumar, the party will look to improve its performance in Bihar. Cyclone Gulab Might Weaken Into A Low-pressure Area 

On Tuesday, the head of Meteorological Centre of Hyderabad, Dr K Nagaratna, said that Cyclone Gulab might weaken into a depression over Telangana and adjoining areas of Maharashtra's Vidarbha and Marathwada. Speaking about the same, she said: "The depression lying over Telangana and adjoining areas of Marathwada, Vidarbha is likely to move in west-northwest wards direction. It is likely to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area," "Under its influence, light to moderate rain is expected at a few places with heavy rain at isolated places within the next 24 hours," she added.
