Tamil Nadu: IMD Predicts Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall Today; Red Alert Issued

On Thursday, the Indian Meteorological Department issued a red alert in Tamil Nadu. As per the IMD, Tamil Nadu's coastal region is likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours, especially in the southern coastal area of Andhra Pradesh. The state government has ordered all schools, colleges to be shut down in 21 districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Dindugal, Pudhukottai, Theni, Vellore, Ariyallur, Nagapattinam, Villupura, Thiruvarur, Mayiladudhurai, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Villipuram, Thanjavur, and Dharmapuri, Puducherry, among others. Issuing the rainfall alert, IMD informed: "A depression has formed over southwest Bay of Bengal at 0830 hours IST of today, the 18th November, about 310 km southeast of Chennai. To move west-northwestwards and cross north TN and adjoining south AP coasts by the early morning of 19th Nov," Last week, around a dozen people died, and 60 houses suffered damage due to heavy rainfall in several districts of Tamil Nadu. https://twitter.com/Indiametdept/status/1461209075014778887

Covid-Bulletin: India Registers 11,919 New Covid-19 Cases; Recovery Rate At 98.28%

According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, India has registered 11,919 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 1,28,762, which is the lowest since March 2020. Meanwhile, daily recoveries recorded in the previous 24 hours stands at 11,242, and the total recoveries have reached 3,38,85,132. The daily and weekly positivity rate stands at 0.97% and 0.94%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 62.82 crore covid-19 tests so far. On Thursday, the price of petrol and diesel remained unchanged. After the central government received a lot of flak with petrol and diesel prices crossing the 100 mark in major cities, the government decided to cut the excise duty on fuel and prices were slashed by Rs 5 and Rs 10. States also joined and agreed to cut on the value-added tax on fuels so as to make the petrol and diesel rates cheaper in their respective areas. PM Modi To Lay Foundation Stone For UP Defence Industrial Corridor Project Tomorrow

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be laying the foundation of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor Project in Jhansi, which will be made with an estimated budget of Rs 400 crore. The beginning of the project will be started by PM Modi at the Rashtra Raksha Samarpan Parv event organized by Defence Ministry and Uttar Pradesh government.
