France: New Variant Of Covid-19 ‘IHU’ Detected
While the Omicron variant is creating havoc globally, a new covid-19 variant was detected in France recently, as per researchers. The new variant named IHU, the B.1.640.2, was first discovered by the academics at institute IHU Mediterranee Infection. As per researchers, the new variant contains 46 mutations which are even more than the mutations in the Omicron variant. Taking to Twitter, epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding said: “NEW VARIANT—French scientists have “rung the bell” after discovering a cluster 12 cases of a variant of “atypical combination” with 46 mutations & 37 deletions in southern France after index case returned from Cameroon,” “There are scores of new variants discovered all the time, but it does not necessarily mean they will be more dangerous. What makes a variant more well-known and dangerous is its ability to multiply because of the number of mutations it has in relation to the original virus,” added the doctor. The new IHU variant has not been reported in any other country yet as per the investigation by the World Health Organisation.
4) Also it seems the new #B16402 variant can be shortcut identified using careful PCR analysis of signals different from Delta and Omicron… that’s good… shortcut tests faster than whole genome sequencing. pic.twitter.com/Sks5Qh6CPr
