After Uttar Pradesh recorded a sharp rise in active covid-19 cases, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had a review meeting with team-9. After the discussion, the CM Informed that from 6th January, the night curfew hours would be extended by 2 hours and be in place from 10 PM to 6 AM. On Tuesday, 23 persons in UP were detected with the Omicron variant taking the total tally of Omicron cases to 31. A government spokesperson also said that all government and private schools would be closed up to 10th Class till 14th January. The state government also said that if cases go above the 1,000 mark in a district, 50% limit curbs will be placed in that district. The government spokesperson also said: "The CM has said that all ICCCs should be kept active 24*7, and their numbers should be widely publicised. These should be monitored regularly. A panel of specialists should be available in all ICCCs. Covid-Bulletin: India Records 58,097 Covid-19 Cases; Total Omicron Cases At 2,135

According to the latest data released by the union health ministry, India has recorded 58,097 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload of the country currently stands at 2,14,004. Meanwhile, India has recorded 15,389 recoveries in the previous 24 hours, and the total recoveries have reached 3,43,21,803. The daily and weekly positivity rates currently stand at 4.18% and 2.60%, respectively. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country has conducted 68.38 crore covid-19 tests so far. On the vaccination front, India has administered 147.72 crore covid-19 tests so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. The union health ministry also released the statewise status of Omicron cases, and India has crossed the 2000 mark with recording 2,135 Omicron cases so far. Air Force To Brief Defence Ministry On General Rawat Chopper Crash

The Indian Air Force officials will be briefing Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the findings of the report into the chief of defence staff, General Bipin Rawat's helicopter crash. A tri-services inquiry was ordered into the Tamil Nadu chopper crash that took place on 8th December 2021 and killed Gen Rawat, his wife Madhulika and 11 other armed forces personnel. No official statement regarding the cause of the crash has come from the Air Force or the government. However, sources have indicated that reduced visibility due to bad weather conditions may have contributed to the IAF chopper crash. So far, there are no explanations about whether it was a pilot error or operating rules that were not followed within the hilly areas. France: New Variant Of Covid-19 'IHU' Detected

While the Omicron variant is creating havoc globally, a new covid-19 variant was detected in France recently, as per researchers. The new variant named IHU, the B.1.640.2, was first discovered by the academics at institute IHU Mediterranee Infection. As per researchers, the new variant contains 46 mutations which are even more than the mutations in the Omicron variant. Taking to Twitter, epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding said: "NEW VARIANT—French scientists have "rung the bell" after discovering a cluster 12 cases of a variant of "atypical combination" with 46 mutations & 37 deletions in southern France after index case returned from Cameroon," "There are scores of new variants discovered all the time, but it does not necessarily mean they will be more dangerous. What makes a variant more well-known and dangerous is its ability to multiply because of the number of mutations it has in relation to the original virus," added the doctor.
