Headlines: Supreme Court Gives Nod For NEET-PG Admissions

Supreme Court Gives Nod For NEET-PG Admissions

In a big relief to medical students, the Supreme Court of India cleared the 27% reservation for OBC (Other Backward Classes) and 10% for EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) categories paving the way for the resumption of medical admissions after a four-month delay. After the top court's decision, over 45,000 junior doctors can join the workforce at a time when the nation is already preparing to fight against the potential third wave of the covid-19 pandemic. The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (Post-Graduate) or NEET-PG counselling was to begin in October 2021, but it was delayed due to multiple petitions filed in the top court challenging the government's decision of 27% and 10% reservations for OBCs and EWS categories. The court said: "You must have some demographic or socio-economic data. You can't just pluck the 8 million figure out of thin air," However, the government said that changing norms at this time can lead to complications in the admissions and allocation of colleges for NEET students.  https://youtu.be/yOE3aWmDUiA
