Hijab Verdict: Karnataka High Court Says Hijab Not An Essential Religious Practice

On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court pronounced its verdict over the petitions challenging the Hijab ban in educational institutions. The court dismissed a batch of petitions filed by Muslim girls from pre-university colleges in the Udupi region seeking the right to wear hijabs as a part of their fundamental right to practice religion. A three-judge bench of the High Court headed by Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and comprising Justice Krishna S. Dixit and Justice J.M. Khazi pronounced its final verdict. The full bench said: "We are of the considered opinion that wearing of the hijab by Muslim women does not make up an essential religious practice in the Islamic faith," "We are of the considered opinion that the prescription of a school uniform is a reasonable restriction constitutionally permissible which the students cannot object to," added the bench. The court also upheld a February 5 government order that had said that hijabs could be restricted in colleges that have prescribed uniforms.  https://youtu.be/AwZXA56pKRA

Russia-Ukraine War: Russia Asked China For Armed Drones; Warns US To Europe

The United States has warned European countries that in late February, Russia had asked China for armed drones when it was beginning the invasion of Ukraine. This request has alarmed the Biden administration that China, Russia's most potent diplomatic partner, might join the war against Ukraine and aid Vladimir Putin. On Monday, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi met for 6 hours to discuss a range of issues, including Ukraine. When asked about the request by Russia, the Chinese Embassy in Washington denied the development and referred to a previous statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry that said: "We have been playing a constructive part in promoting peace talks," Meanwhile, as the war continues to intensify, the Biden administration is trying to persuade Beijing to use its influence with Moscow and help end the invasion that has now entered its third week.  https://youtu.be/naBqK1ijSUQ
