Know All About First Republican Debate - Candidates, Day, And More

As the US Presidential Election 2024 is getting closer, political parties (The Republican and The Democrats) are preparing themselves to choose an ideal candidate. In this regard, The Republican is going to hold a debate, which is the First Republican Debate - while the Democratic Party has not made any clarification about the debate on its ideal candidate selection. Fans of The Republican are excited to know everything about it.

First Republican Debate - Know the Selected Candidates

To select the participants for the First Republican Debate, the Republican National Committee set several thresholds that included 40 000 individual campaign donations. In addition, the candidates or participants had to have 1% support in 3 national polls or one from the presidential primary state and two national polls. The candidates also had to have a pledge sign to support the eventual presidential candidate of the party. Mr Donald Trump did not sign the pledge. So, the Republican National Committee disclosed the names of eight candidates for the First Republican Debate on Monday night. The names of the selected eight candidates are as follows:

  1. Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor
  2. Nikki Haley, former United Nations ambassador
  3. Chris Christie, ex-New Jersey Governor
  4. Doug Burgum, North Dakota Governor
  5. Vivek Ramaswamy, entrepreneur
  6. Tim Scott, South Carolina Senator
  7. Mike Pence, former vice-president to Mr Trump
  8. Asa Hutchinson, former Arkansas Governor

Day, Time, And Place For First Republican Debate

The First Republican Debate will be held on 23 August 2023 (Wednesday) at 9 pm ET in Milwaukee, WI.

How To And Where To Watch The First Republican Debate

As a follower of the Republican Party or American citizen, you can watch the First Republican Debate on all platforms of Fox, including Fox News Channel.

Why will Donald Trump not participate in the debate?

The former US President, Mr Donald Trump, has made it clear that he will fight the US Presidential Election in 2024 and opted to be out of the debate. On his Truth Social Platform, he said on Sunday, “The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had. I will therefore not be doing the debates”. Instead of participating in the debate, Mr Trump will air his pre-recorded interview with a former Fox News host on Twitter (now X) on Wednesday morning, at the same time of the debate.
Will the Democratic Party hold such a debate?
The current US President Joe Biden will contest the presidential election again. So, Democrats will not hold such a debate.

Is there any other debate after the First Republican Debate?

Yes, there is the Second Republican Debate which will take place on the 27th of August at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute in Simi Valley, California. Fox news Channel and its associated platforms will disclose the time for its broadcast on the second debate.

Will there be any effect of the outcome?

A poll conducted by YouGov and CBS last week notes that Mr Donald Trump is ahead of all other probable candidates even after facing criminal indictments four times. The poll reveals that more than 60% of primary voters of the Republican Party prefer Mr Trump as a candidate for the upcoming US Presidential election. However, it does not mean that there will be no effect of the debate.
The poll reveals that 91% of voters want the candidates to pay attention to making the case for themselves and avoid making the debate about Mr Trump. Around 50% of the Republican voters are eager to watch the debate for any change in their choice for their ideal candidate. After having a look at historical data, performances in the debate matter and are helpful for candidates.
