Kaali Film Row: TMC Distances Itself From Mahua Moitra's Remarks On Goddess Kali

TMC MP Mahua Moitra's meat-eating and alcohol accepting goddess remarks have shifted the spotlight on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress. However, on Tuesday, the TMC distanced itself from MP Mahua Moitra's view of Goddess Kali and said that Trinamool Congress doesn't endorse such views. This is not the first time that the outspoken MP has put the TMC in a tight spot. Party seniors including Mamata Banerjee has tried to pass the message to Mahua Moitra that she should not say anything more than what the TMC directs her to. There are speculations that Moitra's Kali remarks were unnecessary and it may have to decided whether she should be allowed to interact freely with the media going forth. Some TMC insiders said that Mahua Moitra could have easily bypassed the question of Goddess Kali. When fellow TMC MP Nusrat Jahan was asked a similar question, she handled it well by saying: "I believe that religion should not be brought in the middle. Don’t make religion a thing to sell.” Mahua Moitra made her latest remarks after she was asked to share her thoughts on the poster of filmmaker Leena Manimekalai's recent film Kaali which shows Hindu goddess Kali smoking. Moitra replied: "You have the freedom to imagine your goddess. To me, Kaali is a meat-eating, alcohol-accepting goddess. There are some places where whiskey is offered to gods,” Within hours of Moitra's statement, TMC came out with a statement saying that the political party does not back Moitra's recent comment on goddess Kali. https://twitter.com/AITCofficial/status/1544293752705269763 https://twitter.com/MahuaMoitra/status/1544284420437200896

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde Replies To Uddhav Thackeray: "The Auto Left The Mercedes Behind"

The recent Maharashtra political crisis has been getting heated with the Eknath Shinde camp and Uddhav Thackeray faction passing remarks on each other. Recently, former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray took a jibe at current CM Eknath Shinde by calling him an auto driver. Giving it back to Thackeray, Eknath Shinde said: "The auto left the Mercedes behind. The government is for the people. There will be a difference in this government. Everyone will feel that this government works for them," During a meeting of Shiv Sena's women's wing at the Sena Bhawan, Uddhav Thackeray referred to an incident where Devendra Fadnavis had asked Shinde to stop talking. Thackeray said: "But how will it stop. The brakes of the autorickshaw failed. Earlier, the BJP used to call the MVA government a three-wheeler government but now the person who drives a three-wheeler is running the government," Giving a befitting reply, Shinde tweeted: "The speed of the rickshaw over the speed of the Mercedes as this is the government of the common man," As Eknath Shinde proved his majority during the floor test in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday, the battle between the two factions of Shiv Sena - the Uddhav camp and the Shinde camp now lies with the Supreme Court. https://twitter.com/mieknathshinde/status/1544302036971167744
